Don't develop a habit of grabbing drill swarf off a running press/mill. I know it's just aluminum;  but muscle memory is real and one day you may be working on stainless, and it just won't end the same.

Don’t think I would be polishing like that especially with that tool post so close.  A very famous and very wise race car fabricator pulled me back from a rotating part in a lathe when I got within that part by 12 inches.   I never forgot what he said and 45 years later I still have my fingers and hands.

Nice work. As a Tool & Diemaker of 40 years I have a few suggestions: Never take your hand off the chuck key. Leave it in the chuck on its own and one day you'll be wearing it as a permanent hood ornament in your skull. Number two is always make a nice fat chamfer before you tap the hole. Chamfering after tapping rolls over the first thread of the hole and the screw won't wanna start. Lastly, as others have said....please don't wipe away the chip with your fingers. At least any fingers that you wanna keep.

I've always kind of wanted to get into machining with lathes and mills. Being a guitar player, this reminds me exactly why I dont do it.

I have been using lathes since 1947 to date and still have all my digits, this guy has the right ideas but no  idea of safe workshop practice !!! follow his ideas but not his machining practice.

I worked with a dude who was a burnout at the age of around 30. He was using a drill press to drill 1/2” or 5/8” holes in a steel plate. He was wearing some big cuff leather gloves and decided to rake off the long shavings one day with his hand. He was shown and told several times, to use the scrap piece of metal we had on the drill press table to do this with. Needless to say that his luck finally ran out one day when the shavings caught his left thumb and pulled it and his glove into the drill bit. His thumb was actually pulled off at the base of his hand. We were only 2 or 3 minutes from the closest hospital, so I drove him there with the glove that still has his thumb in it. He was transported from there to another hospital an hour away to hopefully save and reattach his thumb. After about 6 hours the doctors gave up due to the thumb not being able to recirculate the blood. He was discharged and we returned back home. He had a permanent reminder of what happens when you don't pay attention to safety protocols. In case you are wondering, no, he didn't get Workman's Comp due to testing positive for Cannabis. Cheers

20 years ago i watched a person do a similar silencer he used a pipe and  threaded both  ends filled the inside up full of brass Welsh plugs screwed ends on put in lathe to drill out center of Welsh plugs then on gun worked good , good job you done like your metal work

i've made plenty of suppressors for air powered guns. I always single point my threads, after BORING the proper hole size. it is the ONLY way to ensure concentricity. Drilling only gives you a straight, off center hole. always.
