I'm at an age where things are shifting. I'm 10 years older than my husband. He's an OTR truck driver and I am disabled. Our 32 year old son has sacrificed so much to stay home and take care of me while his dad is on the road. Women reject him for "failure to launch." He's limited in job choices because he wants to work remotely because I fall frequently. Yet, he remains cheerful and does his best to never let us see the burden he's accepted. Thank you, son.

He needs to win a Grammy for this song.

I had my hand resting on my mother's chest as she took her last breath... this song hits hard, every time.

Both father and son were in the British military (James served in Kosovo), and when one would deploy his dad would say "You're not my son. I'm not your father. We're just two grown men saying goodbye" to help them keep a stiff upper lip and go do what they needed to. He and his dad are close. He also gave the proceeds of this to an organization that helps veterans, I believe. Check out "No Bravery"-- it has excerpts from his video diary as an officer. Deep song.

I appreciate that you actually listen to the whole song to get a real feel of every emotion without pausing every 10 seconds to comment. Definitely a beautiful song that hits right in the feels

James Blunt's father Charles, himself a kidney donor, was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease. Blunt wrote "Monsters" to "express his feelings about his father and his illness, He said of the song and video: "Monsters is a eulogy to my father - except he's still alive and kicking. He received a kidney that saved his life.

This song just ripped my heart out! This is a wonderful tribute to his father!

I lost my mother 4 days ago.... i honestly need to hear this song. My father rests in our family graveyard in Whiteriver, Arizona... Apache. My mother's last wish was to go back and be with her husband. This really hits hard since I had to help my father pass as his hospice nurse.... all those things don't matter; he was my father and I loved him. Caretaker of my mother for the last 10 years for nothing, I learned so much about her that I didn't know before... I believe all of us are worth it and helping us see some light is honestly the real treasures of this world.

His dad was dying from kidney disease but because of this song and a distant relative contacted James and came to be tested and it turned out they were a match. Dad ended surviving.

My father died 51 years ago. This song reminds me that grief never goes, it changes over time, but it's always there

You would never think James was in the army as a officer 🇬🇧

I am a daughter, who lost my daddy in ‘99, and the hardest thing I ever had to do was tell him it was ok if he couldn’t win the battle, that I would be ok because he had done his job, and we would see each other again on the other side. He passed a few hours later and my heart is still broken to this day … but I am ok, he gave me the strength to live a good life. I love you Daddy ❤

Such a powerful song. Happy ending. His Dad lives because of this song.

Great review. James Blunt refused autotune to fix the crying issues. He wanted it to be as is for his father who he didn't think was going to find a kidney donor. A distant cousin from Australia saw the video and checked compatibility and was a match and his father was able to get a transplant for his stage 4 kidney disease. He had donated a kidney himself years ago so this was a blessing. As fate would have it, the cousin had the same name as Charles Blount. Who is stil alive today. Heart felt song rhat applies to fathers, mothers and anyone acting as a parent. Love James Blunt as a. Singer songwriter of life.
Would love to see a review of lesser done songs like Tears and Rain, No Bravery, If Time is All I have . Really any of the amazing James Blunt songs. Can't go wrong with any really.

Every child has to change roles when it’s time to comfort their parents at their time of death.

Crazy is knowong that he wrote this song while he THOUGHT his father was on his death bed, but his father recovered to be able to appear in thr video.

They both received the most amazing gift of seeing the end just enough to truly and more deeply apreciate a second chance to spend time together

What a such beautiful and deep emotional song ❤

My father died when I was 16, so unfortunately I didn't get to know him as an adult. However, I'm 59 now, my son is 29, and that's exactly right man! As time goes on I feel less like his dad and more like a friend `and` mentor. In fact, I remember when he moved out at 18 he made a Facebook post that said "Now that I'm on my own, I realize I actually DO need someone to tell me when to go to bed!" Quite a satisfying moment! 😂
