I had the privilege of see ing Dan Gable speak at a small gym in a tiny New England town. There was a snow storm that night. I had just started coaching. In front of a relatively small audience he delivered an inspirational message. It was a that moment I realized the level of dedication that you have to show to your wrestlers if you want to grow the sport and have a successful program.

I heard that story for years but I know the Peterson brothers said he ran 22 miles on sundays before the 1972 Olympics

I've watched a lot of gable videos. Yeah he seemed intimidating coaching iowa. but he seems so nice and genuine in these interviews. All the people putting him down need some perspective. I wasn't around for gable, but I can tell from seeing elders and reviewing history, he was a product of his time. People putting him down need to remember 50 years from now people will likely think many of the things we did were crazy. It is what it is. No need to put down the man, he does a lot for wrestling.

And the best wrestler he ever faced was not Larry owings but wada from Japan who took him down three times in a row before gable threw a bear hug on him
