My buddy and I would go into the Abercrombie in Jr. High and steal the sunglasses and sell them. We'd put the security tags in the couch they had there and would stuff the glasses down our pants. Several years later I got an odd job to go help clear out the Abercrombie after it closed and I found all the security tags (and several wallets and bills) inside the couch.

I really got to hand it to these young men it is really hard to come forward about abuse in the first place of this kind and there has always been so much more of a stigma for young men to do so. We all owe them a debt of gratitude for speaking up

When I was a kid, I was a chunk + needed an XL. At the time, they only carried up to L. 2007, I walked in as a 7th grader, wanting the logo shirt that everyone was wearing. I asked the sales girl if they carried a XL and she looked me up + down and said “nope we don’t carry any sizes you would need.”

I literally walked out so embarrassed + crushed. Early 2000s coded for sure. 😂

I worked at Abercrombie in 2007. I never noticed an issue (I was a 17 year old kid) until someone pointed out how the black and brown kids worked in the back while the white and white passing kids worked in the front. This was 2 years AFTER their racial discrimination lawsuit was settled too. I had quit 6 months into working there.

I worked for Abercrombie for one day in college. They approached me in the mall literally telling me I had "the look" and asked if I wanted a job. I sat through the orientation video then left, the video was pretty discriminatory and just gross

My brother was a "model" at our malls Abercrombie in high school. He was initially all full of himself that he had "the look" and I very obviously didn't. About a couple months in he quit. He never said why except to say no one should shop there. He's an aerospace engineer now. Brains and "the look"!

Abercrombie, as well as Hollister, were like NPC wear for teens when I was in high school.

So many of the people who wore them all ended up looking the same, like down to hair and behavior too. It was eerie.

Thank you for telling the story of these men. While the women who victimized by JE’s ring, the A&F ring flew under the radar for most people. So many men will never come forward with their individual stories because our society hasn’t come far enough to extend empathy to male survivors.

My first job at 16 in 2008 was at Hollister & I would sometimes get sent to the A&F when they were short staffed…can confirm it was by far the most toxic work environment I’ve ever been in, I watched managers make coworkers cry because they had on the wrong color nail polish after attending a wedding, wore the wrong shoes in winter (they made her buy flip flops for her shift) & I watched them make a guy dry shave in the back because “he wasn’t clean shaved enough”. They were never afraid to pull someone out of the front room once someone “hotter” clocked in & they didn’t hide that was the reason. You had to wear makeup but you couldn’t “look like” you were wearing makeup, they policed everything about your appearance!
