Your system can sound so much better with these simple changes to your listening room.  By paying a little attention to the room in which you play music and movies, you will make it easier to understand dialog, improve clarity, and eliminate harshness, boominess, and mudiness.

This video shows non-technical, easily accessible solutions to common problems. Even if your room is pretty good without intervention, you can make it better without making your living room look like a recording studio.  Get it right, and your movie sound effects will be startlingly lifelike and voices clear. With intimate music recordings, the singers will be in the room with you. On live recordings, the walls willl seem to melt away, and you'll feel transported to the concert hall.  

After I made the changes to my room shown in this video, the universal reaction is "Wow!"  People ask why my system sounds so much better than theirs. I've brought other people's speakers to this room and showed them that their speakers are not the problem. One of my neighbors has a playlist titled "Songs to play on Roger's stereo," but what he really needs is "Songs to play in Roger's family room."  With a little experimentation, you can acheive the same in your home.
