RIP Flip. You will be missed. You contributed great knowledge and expertise for fly fishing enthusiasts everywhere. Your explanations were thought provoking and clearly explained. Thank you!

I tried this wrist style today. I've immersed myself with Leftys and Leon Jaworowski's methods. This method (flips) was a revelation. My backcast immediately improved to near perfection. My loops immediately improved dramatically. What made sense to me for Left's style was avoidance of injury. I have Carpal Tunnel and its a concern. Thanks for posting this Brian and Flip!

The best way to fish, let's the rod to make its work (lever) and save the shoulder. I like very much this technique showed by Flip. Thank you

What a great and fun video! It's so good to see Flip he is a wonderful person and an icon in the sport of flyfishing! I’m glad to see you showing there is more than one way to cast well. The only thing that would have made this better was if Lefty was there with you guys as well! Thank you!🙏

Nice - I wish I cold come to your place!
Excellent tips and allways great humor.
Can you still send gear to Scotland?
All the best, Fred

Guess what, guys. We do the same thing in golf, although in golf we "release" the wrist on the downswing, just before the moment of contact. Because both arms are moving forward, and form a fulcrum that is also moving forward, we get more club-head speed when striking the ball....and consequently more distance.

Having said that, I'm a WAY better fly caster than golfer!

Great tips and video. The question I have for Flip is: when the reel, or your hand, rotates outward; how much effect does it have on the accuracy of the cast? I have that "problem" and it seems it does affect my accuracy. Thanks to both of you for the lesson.

But, Lefty was certainly opposed to bending the wrist until the last second - to have the rod tip pass slightly under the line going forward. Although you are not preaching the Kreh cast in this video, this is what AI found on this topic: In essence, "Lefty Kreh's approach to wrist action in fly casting was about finding a balance: minimal wrist movement during the backcast for accuracy and a controlled flick of the wrist during the forward cast to generate power and a tight loop." AI has a ton more on the Kreh cast and this particular part of it.
