Talking isn't enough, but neither is not talking – hypnosystemic holistic concepts for the optimal synergy of verbal and nonverbal processes

Gunther Schmidt named the therapy and counseling approach he developed "hypnosystemic." It combines methods oriented toward systems theory and constructivism – from the tradition of family therapy in the Heidelberg and Milan schools and communication therapy, as the Palo Alto Group initially called its approach – and Milton H. Erickson's reorientation of the use of hypnosis. Schmidt learned personally from Milton Erickson, Helm Stierlin, and many others, creating a concept that is as complex as it is highly structured, the principles and positive practical consequences of which he explains here. The effectiveness of social systems as sometimes highly relevant environments for health-promoting processes (or the opposite...) in individuals is also recognized, incorporated, and a focus in therapy and counseling.
