Its so amazing to think 5 years removed from this, a legend like Michael Hayes would have a different name and be a relative unknown to casual WWF fans, and Steve Austin would become the biggest star in the business, and Hayes would give the interview for the legendary "Austin 3:16" promo, while Paul Heyman would be launching and growing ECW, which would significantly influence the direction of Pro Wrestling for the next 26 years and beyond.
I saw Austin with my son at a WCW show in Philly at a small venue attached to Convention Hall. I told my son at the time to remember Austin because he was going to be huge.
...and just a few short years later one would be holding a microphone for the other when he introduces his catchphrase that would propel him to super stardom!
This was a match that bridged old with new. Not so new now but, Steve Austin needed a spot to get bigger. What better way than the head bird of the Freebirds.
Hayes had a great mind for the industry. In the 80s he understood how important music was to an entrance. There not many Wcw entrance music you remember. Ps I knew he used the song in other territories
Hayes was only A Performer without Roberts & Gordy. Back in the early '80's, he, as The Other Two, really gave it their all as actual wrestlers. Once that Badstreet stuff came along, Hayes no longer really wrestled. The other two faded away....
