The fish store isn't stocking the best fish. It's stocking the most profitable ones. The Pearl Gourami outlives most of what replaced it. The Spotted Congo Puffer came back after a war and is one of the most peaceful puffers in the hobby. The Paradise Fish was in tanks before electric light existed. Your enthusiasm and research for each species is addictive. The descriptions and highlights that make each little fish special show how much you really love them and want everyone to understand that there are way more choices for amateur fish hobbyists to consider...

If the spotted Congo puffers price would come down it’d be the perfect fish. I have 5 of them in with cardinal tetras and Bolivian rams and about 10 Cory’s in a 75 gallon. They’re extremely hardy as far as water perimeters go and yes they most definitely recognize their owner. Mine recognize me as soon as I come in the room and they most definitely recognize when I open up the freezer door, they go ballistic because they know they’re getting a clam or bloodworms

The frustrating thing is Box Stores have an assortment list they have to order from until sales from that assortment sky rockets. So to have most fish on this list, the box Stores need to make absurd sales to unlock the right to order the fish.

I'm in Scotland and have been in the hobby for 3 years, and 4 tanks deep. I do have rosy barbs which are great. I regularly see festive cichlids, paradise fish, (some rarer colours tof them as well), I see zebra danio in the shops I go to almost every time, I've seen Odessa barbs a few times and would love to get them but I don't have anywhere for them to go currently, I've seen bleeding heart tetra twice before, African butterfly two or three times and pearl gouramis very often. So while I'm new to the hobby I have seen a lot of these fish. But I do research the fish before I buy any and try to educate myself on how to care for them properly. I've discovered plenty fish that are unremarkable juveniles who will turn out to be great fish once they are adults, so he is definitely right with what he advice's.

I really wanted dwarf gouramis, but the healthier ones online are never in stock. And I would rather not get them from a pet store. So I went with honeys gouramis instead.

Can you include information when you're talking about the fish, if they need to be with a group when purchased, or if they are good solo fish.

Or maybe that could be a video topic. Solo fish for big and small tanks. Advanced keepers vs beginners

In india we have 2 species of gourami . One is dwarf gourami and one is banded gourami which is biggest version of dwarf gourami. And I have wild sourced 14 dwarf in my planted tank.

Rosy Barbs are the best. They existed peacefully, even with my glass cats. I feel like they used to look pretty good in the stores.

The problem with festivums is they don't color up much until they are breeding.

Had a butterfly fish and loved it but it randomly stopped feeding after having it for months and it actively hunting before. Checked everything and could not find any issue to bother it.
