Cannot stress enough how much I appreciate Odoo for approving the ads I pitch (not many are that accepting). If you're in need of a website go check them out!: https://hoog.best/odoo

This video was rendered on my Blender render farm, which I've made publicly accessible: https://su.lu/kidnapping

Can’t believe they fell for the old “No I don’t have the gilders, I erm, burned them to keep warm, oh and I’m crazy, totally loco, please move me to a psych ward with minimal security”

If you don’t live in the Netherlands, the effects of this kidnapping are still felt. Also for some reason the escape of a gorilla was front page news for months. It’s a weird country.

For those that don't know (which is propably anyone not from the Netherlands).
Peter R. de Vries was a crime reporter who spent most of his life bringing attention to, and helping with, various cases, from ongoing cases, to cold cases.
In 2021 he was assasinated in Amsterdam by people linked to a case he was currently working on.

His life's motto was "On bended knee is no way to be free" (sometimes said as "It is better to die standing than live kneeling"), something he did to the very end.
He was one of the most revered journalists the Netherlands ever had.

Some of these guys also robbed a bank in broad daylight in the middle of Amsterdam. Because a car chase through Amsterdam wouldn't end up well for them, they decided to to execute their getaway by speedboat over the canals instead. The thing was, at this one specific turn where they had to go from one canal to the other, you had to go either really slowly or at a very specific speed (which was fast) because of shallow water. If you didn't have that exact speed with this boat, you would crash. The driver of the speedboat practiced this relentlessly for months, and the getaway worked. These guys were extremely intelligent and dedicated.

These guys planned this out scarily well it was an extremely intelligent plan.

It's so funny how all the toughest gangsters always give each other the cutest little nicknames

Now you have another CEO material to cover.

I work at the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam, am a big Heineken nerd and I know that the Heineken family personally asked us not to mention/talk about the kidnapping

Really enjoyed the video! I'd recommend adding subtitles though, since you have so much terminology like names, locations or currency in a foreign language.

The ad transition was so cool and them just going whats a website is hilarious lmaoo

This is like a PS1 true crime documentary and I’m so here for it

13:04 2 years later, in 1987, Albert Heijn was abducted by Ferdi Elsas. He kidnapped him, killed him immediately, cut off his pink and saved it to mail it to the cops a week later, making it seem as if he was still alive.

The dude was a engineer and really smart. He got the money and was then so smart to buy liquer with it in his local store 6 months after. The bills were marked and therefore they could easily arrest him. He got 20 years in prison, was let go in 2001 due to good behaviour. 8 years later he got his final punishment when he was riding his bike and got overrun by an excavator.

These two cases shocked the netherlands, it was unheard of. Both cases are horrible but somehow the Heineken case ‘felt’ better. Not to glorify anyone but they at least kept their victim alive and treated them with some respect. The Albert Heijn kidnapper killed his victim in a forest and mislead the family giving them hope.

25:35 Cor van hout hauling five 100kg bags in the back of the fan in 30 seconds is quite the achievement of physical strength. I dont think I could do it

I don't know who that woman was that tried to stop a kidnapping, carried out by multiple people, but damn.

THE TWIST AT THE END HAS ME FUCKING TWEAKING WHAT???

As a dutch person, I've heard this story too many times, but its nice to see it in late 90's game graphics for a change.

Who got this video recommended after Unitedhealthcare ceo was assassinated 💀

This feels like the show money heist. The robbers accounted for possible scenarios, they have a high value hostage, they used codenames, and they didnt want to kill anyone.

They probably aren't great people but there is just something about stories like these where you wish they got away with it. But at the same time we wouldn't know any of the details
