Getting a job in Italy can feel like a different world from what many people expect, and if you are moving to Italy in 2026, the job hunt can look very different depending on whether you have dual citizenship, a visa, or you are still trying to understand what is realistically possible. Where you choose to live matters, not just for lifestyle, but for what kinds of opportunities you will actually see in front of you, and the same goes for expectations around pay, stability, and how hiring works day to day. Language also shows up in ways that can surprise people, even when a role looks like it should be “English-friendly,” and that is only one part of a bigger picture that includes timing, legal status, and how much of Italy still runs on human connection. For some, remote work can be a smoother first step while you settle in, but even that comes with tradeoffs if you are trying to build a real life and community locally. In this episode of Not Your Average Globetrotter hosted by Rafael Di Furia, you’ll hear about what to watch for and how to think about finding work in Italy with expectations that match the reality on the ground.

I had a Russian girlfriend 10 years ago who had a good job in London when I was living in Rome. She wanted to move to Rome at all costs against my recommendation NOT to do it. She lasted 5 months, she didn't even get an interview.
She had 3 years of experience in her field, IBM on her CV, Swiss passport and 6 languages including native Russian, native French, fluent Italian and fluent English.
This is what Italy gives competent people: NOTHING.
In the end we had to move back to London together, after she burned all her savings and her love for Italy.
