This was my introduction to Olivia Colman. The scene where she takes the dad to identify Danny’s body - her own grief was devastating to witness. The scene where she confronts the guilty party - that was even more devastating than the “identify” scene. By no means diminishing the talents and efforts of the greats, I can’t recall any actor who has gotten so immersed in the moment. I often wonder how the rest of the cast and crew were by the time the scene was completed. I can only picture nothing short of shock and deafening silence on the set for eternal minutes afterward. I picture a counselor / therapist running over to Olivia, picking her up off the floor and physically holding her up as she whisks her off to some kind of recovery room pre-filled with all of Olivia’s favorite things and closest companions. Olivia is absolutely a master of her craft.
