The 4th Lesson of the Tafsir (Commentary) of Surah Al-Haqqa by our esteemed teacher Halis Bayancuk, on 'Those Whose Book is Given from the Left':
The verses discussed in our teacher's commentary deal with the state of people who will feel remorse on the Day of Judgment and their supplications. These verses remind us of what we should do in this world to prevent the regrets we will experience in the hereafter.
Remorse on the Day of Judgment:
The verses express the regrets of people whose wealth and power did not benefit them, and who did not prepare for the hereafter. These people realize that the wealth and power they possessed in this world will be of no use in the hereafter. When they are thrown into the fire, they want to return and make amends for their mistakes. However, their request is not accepted.
Two Factors Leading to Regret:
Our teacher explains the two factors that will cause regret on the Day of Judgment as follows:
1. Relying on Wealth and Power:
People who rely on their wealth and power in this world and do not work for the hereafter will experience great regret on the Day of Judgment. Their wealth and power will not save them from the fire.
2. Rejecting Evidence:
People who reject the verses of Allah and the warnings of the prophets, and who live according to their whims and desires, will also regret it in the hereafter. Those who place their own intellect and evidence before the pleasure of Allah will understand the truth in the fire.
Our teacher concludes his commentary with this message:
"The wise person is one who makes amends for their regrets in this world. Repent and turn to Allah before the Day of Judgment comes, so that you may come before your Lord in a pure state."
Verses recited:
As for him whose book is given to him from the left, he will say, “Oh, that my book had not been given to me!” (69:25)
“Oh, that I had not known my reckoning!” (69:26)
“Oh, that death had put an end to everything (and there had been no resurrection or reckoning)!” (69:27)
“My wealth has not benefited me at all.” (69:28)
“My power/authority has vanished.” (69/Al-Haqqa, 29)
