This session we repair an old 1940's Arvin 617 shortwave radio. In its time it was a popular radio, with a beautiful large dial. With an RF amplifier section it was a great performer. We bring this from a garage find up to fully restored and working condition.

Why are you not concerned about the foil side of the capacitors that you replace? Might increase the EMI that the radios see.

Can you really use brake cleaner as electrical contact cleaner? I thought brake cleaner would attack rubber and plastic...

Hey Ron I know this video is a few years old but I was hoping you could tell me where you get your dial string in a big spool like that?

We disagree on how to make solid solder connections but you dazzle me with your other effective methods including mechanical repair including wood refinishing and dial reconstruction (cords and faceplates), reuse old condensor housings, sand blasting, and on and on and so et al. And I clearly see you have circuits engrained in your brain from repeated exposure.
I only would hope you, as a teacher to others, would DECLARE that B+ circuits are hazardous to one's health. As a very young teenager my parents gave me tube radios to PLAY with. PLAY WITH? Yeah, sure! "Hey kid, why don't you go out in traffic and play!" <sigh>. But I'm still here❤. I understand that current flow thru the body causes muscle contraction. Contraction that tends to HOLD ON TO THE ELECTROCUTION EVENT. That, further, AC being alternating is easier to break free from but DC maintains contraction making breaking loose more challenging... So why not start your videos with a quick disclaimer about the dangers of working on vacuum tube devices? It can't hurt (pun intended).
BTW-- you have impressive test equipment. Do you do your own calibrating?
BTW x2 -- when kitty throws up... (yeah cats throw up) -- after throwing up they quickly become hungry again. Do you have dry food 24/7 like I do? Can food 2x; dry 24/7...
P.S. Why don't you always test all tubes at the beginning of your process? Afterall... you don't have to run down to the drugstore, right?
