Magnus always slightly tired, slightly irritated, slight hungover

bro calculates if there is any checkmate before he starts memorizing the position

Next up: "Magnus recreates the position by looking at it for 0 seconds"

I think that in 2 seconds, I won't able to detect where the white king is positioned on the board.

David is such a good host

So when he walks up to an opponents board after his game is done and looks at it for a second or two, shakes head and walks off… he actually DOES see how it finishes lol.

"Oh yeah, I got it..."😌

Me on the 2s challenge: "Oh, there is a chess board here."

His memorization skills are just ridiculous at this point

David Howell doesn't hide his admiration, it makes him an engaging commentator. Here he's like a kid in a sweet shop, which given his own evident skill, underlines to what extent Magnus is different.

At the 2 second example I thought impressive, then I realized it was the game of the century and I was less impressed...
Then I remembered that I looked that game up literally two days ago, and I did not recognize it by the image, nor remembered any of the moves, and I was impressed again.

Bro's arguments for his misplaced pieces are the positional benefit they would have in the game 😭😭

These two seconds, when David fired out the next moves... Mind-blowing. David is a fantastic player on his own.

my magnus looks like dumbledore speaking through an image in harry potter.

i love David and the way he talks. really a likeable person.

Next up: "Magnus recreates the position by looking at it for 0 seconds blinfold"

And here's me not remembering why I went to the kitchen.

There was a study that showed Chess masters are much better at recreating positions that are from an actual chess game, ie, the position is plausible. Given a totally random assortment pieces on the board, they are no better than the rest. Masters like Magnus has their pattern recognition kick in that they have trained over years and years, which allows them to create the position on the board. That is why the freestyle positions were harder.

4:51 "No, it doesn't matter 😐"

05:57 poor bishop has been hit 5-6 times lol
