It's just Ricky fucking around with his mate Karl.

Karl is a British legend

Just here to mention "An Idiot Abroad" like other people inevitably will 😉

Basically, Karl was someone who worked for Ricky. And Ricky found his outtake and his views on life hilarious. Karl had such a unique mind and a way with thinking about things that others don’t. They do a podcast called (the Ricky Gervais show). And have conversations about general life. It’s so funny. Once you’ve done this, you should check out the Ricky Gervais show. Then idiot abroad. Trust me, you can not go wrong with these shows

I can assure you that Karl is being himself, so is Ricky. No acting involved.

Karl is not a character by the way. He’s just a normal bloke who is slightly grumpy and hates being outside of his comfort zones. Ricky isn’t playing a character either in this. He’s literally just introducing Karl to the world to enjoy his views like he does. Trust me, stick with it and check out those shows afterwards

This was done for Ricky’s own entertainment but when it turned out this good Ricky put it out there for everyone to enjoy.

The Office ( The original British one), Extras, An Idiot Abroad, The Ricky Gervais Show. All essential vieing to get this type of humour!

Context: - Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant met when working at a London based commercial radio station called XFM...neither were particularly well known at the time. Soon after they began working/writing together they wrote and produced 'The Office' (the original that the American version of the show was based on). The Office was hit show that gained a great deal of popularity and critical acclaim and it basically launched both of their careers. They returned to the radio station (XFM) but were now significantly higher up on the success ladder...they were given a producer to help run the show...that producer was Karl Pilkington. They soon discovered Karl was an, often unintentional, comedy gold mine and quickly involved him into more and more of the show.

(pretty much ALL of those early days radio shows are on YT...just the conversation parts with the music edited out)

Much later, the three of them released an animated series, of three seasons, featuring much of the conversations and material from those pre-recorded shows like their XFM shows and podcasts.

After that they worked with Karl again on 'An Idiot Abroad', 'The Moaning of Life' ...that's it in a nutshell...you have to watch Karl a while to understand what he's all about. This out of context skit doesn't really help.

going in this blind makes this so much funnier XD

if you want to understand their relationship, they made a show called An Idiot Abroad. it's not really that karl is stonewall, it's that he's gormless, and he says a mixture of completely oblivious things, completely outrageous things and on occasion absolutely insightful things. and ricky is just there enjoying the absurdity of his being

Once you know Karl you can never go back, it is something that can never be undone. Your life up until now is BK(before Karl) and now AK(anno Karl). Xfm radio shows(especially season 2) is the Holy Grail of everything Karl, Ricky and Steve have ever done together.

"Meet Karl Pilkington" is another very funny bit from these two! :)

If you watch the Ricky Gervais Show podcasts or listen to the XFM radio show episodes you'll see that Karl started out as the guy who basically just pushed the buttons, then they started talking to him and it snowballed from there. They'd try and explain how things work to him, explain stuff like philosophy and how the world works and a lot of the time he didn't get it but he'd respond with something unintentionally hilarious, this is just a way of getting the same type of experience but with Karl on TV instead of the radio.

The Chinese obsession with Karl is typical, he gets something in his head and just gets fixated on it. 😅

Need to watch an idiot abroad and the ricky gervais show
And there's a piece on youtube where ricky introduces karl meeting karl for the first time it's all hilarious

Leering center south of Canada in chigago in Illinois.Love to see you have at least two cats  and that a bad  UK  pilot made you learned English so quickly love from north of Europe, take care

Karl has a Manchester Accent.

Karl was Ricky's engineer on a radio. Ricky provokes him for his real reaction.   Inadvertently hysterical.  A man satisfied with things as they are. Rick is from Reading and Karl from  Manchester

Loved this so much ty

What a beautiful girl
