He took a life. He should be jailed for life.

She did everything she could to get away, yet the system failed her.

People who do this think they're the strongest men out, when in reality their violent acts make them the weakest creatures on earth. Rest in peace Tara.

How can the law only give this man a 20 yr sentence for taking a life? The mother is correct - another 40 yrs should be added on

As a Mum and a survivor of DV this was incredibly hard to watch. My heart breaks for Tara 💔 her Mum 💔 and her daughter 💔

Tara's brother ended up taking his own life two years ago as well. 😢 Their poor mum.

How a judge could not give life imprisonment for this is beyond comprehension. What exactly does one have to do to deserve life imprisonment if this is not it? We need a stricter legal system in this country. That's another reason why we have so much DV. I'd support bringing back capital punishment too.

That's a joke why 20years give him life sentence..that 20years can't replace the grief of a mother💔

I grow up in Whanganui Aotearoa New Zealand i lived in the same town i knew his father i knew his family... His Grandparents were so beautifully hearted people...I would be waiting for the bus to go to school outside their house & i was always given a cup of hot Milo on those 🥶 ❄️ days, in the ☀️ a beautiful cold drink, yes i am related through my father's Whakapāpā Lineage...I have NO words....I cried when i first saw this story, for Tara her daughter & her family.....I am so so so sorry for the loss the DV Lionel put her through RIL beautiful Angel 😇 you didn't deserve any of this neither did her family....I don't believe 20 years is Justice for what Lionel did...He deserves LIFE with out parole....I remember his  brother is the same both DV abusive Men....I also remember his father telling his both his Son's to reach for the skies.....His Sons should be ashamed off themselves & not only that they are both EviL & Rotten Mongrels out there, i just hope they both stay in Jail for the rest off the remainder off their lives.....I really wonder how their Mother feels about her Son's & i also wonder how she lives her life is she free from DV or, is she a huge part off her Son's abusive behaviour??? Along with their FATHERS behaviour because those to brothers were brought up this way & taught this behaviour both Murdering piece's off crap....

It stinks that our beautiful ladies are victims to these evil men who say they love there partners but yet do the worst things imageable. It happens far to often to many lives lost

I remember Tara. The day before the police had thrown her out of the police station when she went to report DV abuse!!! He then run her off the road and bashed her head in while other people were trying to save her.

Regardless of what she did to protect herself he was gonna do it anyway because the authorities failed her big time.  Fly high beautiful Tara.

One thing you can never say to an abuser is that you are leaving them. Wrong move. Should never go back and leave for good please.
