It’s early October in the interior of British Columbia, and I’m finally back out on my gold claim for a proper look around.
This trip isn’t really about moving gravel or finding a pile of gold. I wanted to explore several bends I haven’t spent much time on, check out some of the old gravels, hunt for interesting rock specimens, and get a better idea of where I might want to set up the high banker next season.
The farther I worked my way into the claim, the more interesting it got — huge gravel bars, old inside bends, beaver dams, massive logs, quartz specimens, possible signs of old activity, and eventually enough bear sign to convince me not to push quite as far into the bush as I originally planned.
I’ve only scratched the surface of this property so far, but every trip out here gives me another reason to come back.
Over the winter I’m hoping to design and build the high banker we’ll eventually bring out here, and once everything is ready next spring, we can finally start processing some of these old gravels properly.
Thanks for coming along.
