A poem written by a poet 800 years ago sitting in a dargah in Delhi. And still soothes the nerves of the generations today  A  legend underadmired #AmirKhusrao

This poem is written by Amir Khusro in Persian and Brij Bhasha. Brij Bhasha is a Dehaati Zabaan (country tongue) and a dialect of Hindi. In the first verse, the first line is in Persian, the second in Brij Bhasha, the third in Persian again, and the fourth in Brij Bhasha.

Zehaal-e-miskeen makun taghaful,
Duraye naina banaye batiyan.

Do not overlook my misery,
by blandishing your eyes and weaving tales,

Ke taab-e-hijran nadaram ay jaan,
Na leho kahe lagaye chatiyan.

My patience has over-brimmed, O sweetheart!
why do you not take me to your bosom.

Shaban-e-hijran daraz chun zulf,
Wa roz-e-waslat cho umer kotah.

Long like curls in the night of separation
short like life on the day of our union.

Sakhi piya ko jo main na dekhun,
To kaise kaTun andheri ratiyan.

My dear, how will I pass the dark dungeon night
without your face before.

Yakayak az dil do chashm-e-jadu,
Basad farebam baburd taskin.

Suddenly, using a thousand tricks
the enchanting eyes robbed me of my tranquil mind.

Kisay pari hai jo ja sunave,
Piyare pi ko hamari batiyan,

Who would care to go and report
this matter to my darling.

Cho shama sozan cho zaraa hairan,
Hamesha giryan be ishq an meh.

Tossed and bewildered, like a flickering candle,
I roam about in the fire of love.

Na nind naina na ang chaina,
Na aap aaven na bhejen patiyan,

Sleepless eyes, restless body,
neither comes she, nor any message.

Bahaq-e-roz-e-visaal-e-dilbar,
Ke daad mara gharib Khusro.

In honour of the day I meet my beloved
who has lured me so long, O Khusro!

Sapet man ke varaye rakhun,
Jo jaye pauN piya ke khatiyan.

I shall keep my heart suppressed
if ever I get a chance to get to her trick

Ustaad Dildar Hussain must get all the credit of the world - playing tabla continuously with such perfection and holding everything together.

May god give him long life.

Only The Legend NFAK can give justice to the kalam of Hazrat Ameer Khusru 💝

I am leaving a comment on 2024/01/30 in italy here so anyone in future come here no matter what stage of life in you are You will be best version of your self by listening to this song.

This is the best poetry of all time. Imagine writing a poem in two languages and still carrying all the grace, sentiment and impact. Simply brilliant, simply Khusrow.

kaash main Nusrat Sahab ko live dekh sakti aur sun sakti......but i am happy that my birthdate is same as that of him....:) :)
Love from India....

My association with Qwali started abt 43 years bk, when I was studying in ( Indian ) Hyderabad, by purchasing 2 cassettes of this artist.Till then I usd to chk qwalis in Radio Pakistan, nd to my dismay…th transmission was very weak…since we belongs far south India ,Kerala.Nw social media opened th doors of heaven fr music lovers. Th lirics “ na neend naina…na ang Chaina…” unforgettable fr me..I can follow Urdu  only bcz of qwalis nd Gazals of Pakistan. This one Zehale miskin…a masterpiece…Ustad Nusrat Fathe Ali khan nd team showed th world that Amir Qusru, th legendary poet an evr shining bright star ….

A 13th century poem still touching the heart and soul in 2020... this is called eternity.❤️❤️😍

One Master(Nusrat) brings the other Master(Amir Khusrao) to life for us commoners.......Ya Allah, Zihal e miskeen, makun taghaful..

I too am leaving this comment so someone will may like this comment after some years so i will tell my children this is the masterpiece i used to listen and gave them something beautiful in this world to hear.

To the person who is reading this, may you get peace of soul, may you win your insides war, may your heart be filled with love.❤

Amir Khusro has written the original poem, Nusrat has interspersed it with Mirabai’s poetry. Constantly amazed at the layers of syncretism NFAK (and other qawaals) habitually reach.

What a dhun , what writing, what singing..no shabd ..just prem❤

Allah ka behad shukar hai ki Usne hind walo ko Hazrath Khwaja Amir khusro jaisa Azeem tohfa inayat farmaya
