7:51 its because in Shovel Knight, you can collect music sheets (pages) and give them to an npc to listen to the soundtrack

Don't stop stopping and commenting. This is exactly why I watch you. And yeah, I wish you would do more of this in "Flowey vs. Monica".

8:12: In Shovel Knights main game, there are false walls you can hit with the shovel that will fall away to reveal jewels and other treasures. Some of the false walls are really hidden though, so to an outsider, Shovel Knight looks nuts for attacking walls with his shovel. But then, drywall turkey is a type of board like a wall, and Shovel Knights best source of food is turkey. It’s a complicated bar, but it lands if you have the context.

The "Face the Music" line refers to how you collect the Bard's lost Music Sheets in Shovel Knight's campaign, while being a play on words on the normal play the music phrase.

Also the Pogo bit references the Shovel Drop move SK has, which allows him to drop down and bounce off enemies and certain hazards, ususlly damaging them.

I love the voice Rosenthal gave to The Knight, they don't speak at all in the game but it's totally fitting

8:04 Apparently in Shovel Knight you collect papers of music sheets for a bard character.
8:05 In Castlevania, you can find turkey if you "break through" certain wall tiles.
8:17 "Liver" and "chalice" could imply alcohol, which is bad for the liver and ia found in wine, which is drank in chalices. Also, Shovel Knight can use a tool to turn his head into a fish's head as a gag.
8:23 "Blue Bomber" refers to Mega Man, which Shovel Knight takes obvious inspiration from (and is hinted to be in a future Freshy Kanal battle...)
8:30 Shovel Knight has the same concept, or "code" as Mega Man. Shovel Knight also has a code, or motto: "Steel thy shovel," which the Knight implies to have been changed to "Steal thy concept" since Shovel Knight is so close to Mega Man.
8:46 The Knight threatens to break Shovel Knight's helmet, claiming his attack to the head to be the first thing Shovel Knight takes on "headfirst," or bravely.
8:50 Shovel Knight has a large collection of ancient relics, which he uses as tools to aid himself.
9:33 SK threatens to use his shovel to dig up the corpses of the children the king uses as saceifices to save the land, while making a pun on the word "dirt," which can mean someone's worst secrets.
10:15 Also pun on the word "wyrm" which is a dragon that has no limbs, therefore looking like a worm.
10:37 The King spawned serveral children to be a vessel for the corruption taking over Hallownest, effectively using trial and error, or the act of trying and failing until you succeed.
10:44 Despite the name of their game, the protagonist of Hollow Knight is not THE Hollow Knight, which SK makes fun of by claiming they failed to contain nothing, and therefore aren't hollow. SK claims they were interested to challenge the Knight because they conquered Gods, which the Knight did using the Dream Nail, and SK claims that it was just in their dreams.
10:57 SK has dream sequences where they have to save their "damsel," Shield Knight, and the Knight implies that the nightmares are caused by Shield Knight's death.
11:13 The Knight claims Shield Knight can't use her shield to protect SK from the fact that he's not as good as her. The Knight claims SK's arrogance is towering, or big, referencing the Tower of Fate that Shield Knight was trapped in. "Chivalry's dead" is a common phrase that the Knight uses to claim SK buried it, referencing his shovel, and possibly the fact thet instead of chivalry, he uses the word "shovelry."
11:20 The Knight claims SK was too insecure and cowardly to face trouble, so he bounced (referencing thw pgoo technique SK uses to bounce off enemies), or ran, home.
11:51 The Knight claims SK is stuck in a hole, or problem, and  tells him to put down his shovel, as it will only serve to dig him deeper down into it.
11:53 SK digs through blocks, just like piping in a home, and he defeats wild animals, to progress through levels. SK also collects gold, like the Yukon (idk who they r tbh) to get a "heart of gold."
12:01 The Knight claims SK had an empty plot, referring to both his game and the farm he tends to, and that he is not as noble as he claims he is, but instead as hollow and empty as the true Hollow Knight.

As someone who speedruns Shovel Knight and is playing through Hollow Knight right now, I absolutely loved this battle.
Shoutout to Shovel Knight for winning the initial duel in video, but I personally think the Knight took it.

Even though sometimes I disagree on who wins, you're still a really fun dude to watch lowk, keep it up ✌️

Bro this fight was so fire Freshy really does know how to come back

You should react to Smosh vs. MarbleHornets by Danii at some point because it's sooo peak.

Ive been always so annoyed when someone reacts to a rap battle but doesnt know 1 or god forbid BOTH of the characters, be it anime or game rap reactions (so basically half of the bars dont mean anything because they dont get the reference).. So i really appreciate that even tho you havent played either, you actually did your research on the characters and their lore 🔥

Ong we need Josiah streaming a Hollow Knight playthrough or else we riot. Jokes aside (I am not joking that was an active threat I need a Josiah Hollow Knight playthrough this instant) really good reaction as always man!

12:08 for those who missed it, this is a reference to the fact that the main protagonist of hollow knight and the one rapping isn't called the hollow knight but just the knight, he is a knight who is hollow, the hollow knight though is a different character who is a knight which is not hollow and wtf is going on in this plot

You NEED to watch Indie Cross home

Damn, after watching reaction to Flowey vs Monika I thought he stopped pausing and breaking the bars, which was pretty sad. And now it is even sadder bc now he breaks the bars and at least in my opinion Hollow Knight vs Shovel Knight is alright rap battle, but Flowey vs Monika was pure fire

3:43 its a joke to how the knight has no mouth hole. So he can’t bite

I want to break down the knight’s final verse cause I feel you missed a bit
First the first thing the knight says “Don’t think that angel lands, you’ve had nightmares because your damsel can’t” while you did break down the second line with shield knight being unable to dream with her (I think) being dead, but the first is also important to me because it is true the bar doesn’t land since the knight has killed gods outside of the dream world such as literally every boss in the game as they are all seen as gods by the godseekers and as the name states finding gods is their whole thing next line
“Bringing up dreams you’d be a happy man to learn there’s a catch to that” I’ll be honest I don’t know so if someone wants to explain it that would be appreciated
“Protected from everything but she can’t shield you from the fact you’re inept in comparison” basically shield knight protects shovel knight from a lot of stuff in the game (I think but correct me if I’m wrong) and the knight is saying shovel knight can’t do any of what he does without that help and he’s in return inept in comparison to her
Here’s one I think goes hard af that I’m sad you missed “Arrogance towered like where you had left her in chivalry’s dead and you buried it.” DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE OF A BAR but that’s all I feel you missed I’ll comment again if I find something else tho and thx for the vid

So amazing 👏

Drywall turkey is a play on the hidden turkey legs you can find in walls in castlevania, which is another idea shovel knight borrows from older games. Also “drywall” bc it’s in a fragile wall, and the turkey itself is being described as dry
