i love that "fanservice" for these fans is just an old man in a hat

Imagine being begged by the actors to not make any more movies 😭

Finally, someone talking about the character assassination of Tom Branson: my Roman Empire

You know how films sometimes feature little videos in the credits that shows the characters living happily ever after, in happy homes, marrying their true loves and having babies...The Downton trilogy feels like 650 minutes of that.

I hate what they did to Moseley. Was complete Flanderisation. They turned him into a complete Buffoon for cheap laughs. Like in the series he’s just supposed to be the guy who can’t catch a break trying his best. Now he’s just a complete idiot for some reason. Like he is a trained Valet, there is no reason why he would mess up serving the King and Queen by addressing them.

Poor Mary, divorced, alone in the house, eating dinner by herself, with a new butler

My favourite part of the 3rd film is when Lord Grantham forgot that Thomas was gay and was baffled by his closeness with Guy. Like he didn’t have a whole conversation about Thomas being gay with a policeman who came to his cricket match.

Ugh you know what would’ve been interesting?? If downton had to take in a bunch of kids evacuated from London in wwii. That would help transition out of the “golden era” but not have to attempt any battlefield scenes. It’d be like when the house was a hospital in wwi. You could even have the miscellaneous Crowley kids interacting with the evacuated kids and question the adults why they have so much but the other kids are struggling. Which would make the adults FINALLY move on out of this age

For me where the 1st movie went insane was how Isobel just casually ambushes Maude Bagshaw and somehow guesses Lucy Smith is Maude's secret love child and Maude does absolutely nothing to refute it, even confirming it. Imagine, a Lady In Waiting to The Queen and member of The Royal Household, being accused of an extramarital affair and having a child, being told her secret has been found and she's just like "yeah you got me, let me spill the details to you, woman I just met". Edith had a whole story arc of a similar nature and she tries to keep it secret but it just snowballs out of control and in the end only her family knows. Maude kept that shit secret for 20 years and at the first bit of accusation she crumples like a house of cards because they just don't have the run time.

Don't forget Andy going part-time to look after the pigs to allow Mr Mason to retire, but now he's the butler and yet Mr Mason can retire into his 'full marriage'.

I think a slight spin-off movie that would be great is one focused on Edith and Bertie during the rise of Hitler and WW2. Seeing how she used her position and Bertie's power to fight the people who killed her daughter's father. Would be incredible if done right.

The fact that there are no other writers other than Fellowes makes a lot of the show make so much more sense. You can tell he ran out of ideas fairly early (i.e. Season 3) and was probably too proud to hand off any creative power to anyone else.

The Singing in the Rain stolen plotline in movie 2 is made even grosser when you think about how a girl with an 'ugly' working class accent is 'saved' by the lovely-sounding upperclass Lady Mary. Julian Fellows really has a problem and yet I still lap it all up.

The line that got me screaming in the third movie is when Edith tells Tom "so you went from révolutionnary to capitalist" and he answers "I like to call it being sensible" like come oooooon, we know the show is propaganda for the rich but you don't need to rub it in our faces like that 😭
Thanks for your great video !

Mary saying “isn’t Ireland free now?” after the assassin guy gets apprehended in the first movie had me on the floor. Like girl it’s 1927 !! What do you mean!!

The staff remind me of house elves. They just enjoy servitude so much.

"just like Paul Blart's mum" was not what I expected to hear 😂

I enjoyed when Mrs. Hughes suddenly had a disabled relative in assisted living to account for her having no savings. We never hear of this person again.

Oh, one more thing, I am surprised the video does not bring up.  When filming the diegetic movie at Downton Abbey in the second film, there is a scene near the end, where it is revealed that the extras are all on strike, because they have not been paid.  Not looking for a raise, just pay, full stop. But the crew needs a bunch of extras for their fancy dinner party scene, and the IRL movie wants to have all the servant characters dressed like nobles, especially so they can make the two forthcoming marriage proposals extra fancy.  So they ask the common folk to dress as the gentry and everyone is thrilled with the idea.

Even Daisy.  Especially Daisy. Daisy the leveler. Daisy, the closest thing to a critic of the whole manor system that is allowed on the grounds.  Daisy who is always advocating for fair treatment for people, even when the other characters, and possibly the writers, thinks her concern is misinformed or making a mountain out of a molehill.  Daisy is actually THRILLED to be a SCAB!

For the record, I have no brief for unions or animus toward people who are willing to work for wages they deem acceptable, regardless of how it spoils the plans of others to agitate for more money. But I also think it is important to keep characters consistent!  For Daisy to happily help out a company that is spending a fortune to pay the wealthy nobles for the use of their house, but won't toss a crumb to the lowest workers on their totem pole, for Daisy to take the place of people who just want to get paid their agreed-upon wages, is one of the most egregious destructions of character on the show.  That is worse than diseases disappearing, or sex with a couple of Crawleys making Tom forget his Irish socialist roots, because it's absolutely going against everything the character stood for.  That was more or less the entirety of Daisy's characterization, that she had Issues with the System. But now she doesn't. Oh well.

Also, Mary's parents are shocked to walk into the house to find her recording dialogue for the fake movie.  Cora has been awakened in the middle of the night to help drag a Turkish corpse out of Mary's bed. How on earth can her daughter actually shock her anymore?
