I went on vacation and decided to check on my torts while I was gone. My 100 lb sulcata wasn't in his pen and the door was wide open. I called the sitter who was at work at the time and she just laughed it off and said she'll stop by after work. I told her this wasn't funny and he needed to go back in immediately but she couldn't. So I called my mom who lives 45 minutes away and she raced to the house to put him back. When she found him, he was trapped under some furniture that he moved and was clearly in distress. He took out the computer desk, smashed a monitor, furniture and poop everywhere and the heat vent was ripped down off the ceiling. He was fine though, never used that sitter again.

My child hit the "problem solving stage" of toddler-hood and climbed a toy he pushed up against the counter where we have our snake and unlatched her enclosure without anyone noticing..  well, at 2am my husband and I heard a crash in our kitchen (scared the absolute crap iut of us) and we found our ball python exploring the top of the refrigerator lol. The enclosure is now baby proofed lol.

AND conversely Make sure your other pets are safe from the reptiles!

For long-lived animals you can also talk to a reputable rescue or sanctuary so that if something should happen to you, your pets have a safe landing.  If your will has them going to a sanctuary, have funds set aside as a donation for their care.

Also for anyone in the UK we have access to Cloverleaf Absolute repti-vet snake mite gone+ treatment that you inject into a mouse or rat and feed to snake. Lasts 30 days

Reptile keeping ain't for the weak,  they keep you on your toes. I hope everyone has an awesome start of the week

The worse thing is when my son asked me. "I think I found your lizard". He found one of my Leopard Geckos in the bathroom. I had no idea she got out, The good news is she is weird and likes to be handed her insects.  The best news is having him find a Leopard Gecko and anything else form my collection.

Escape story… We were given a young ackie monitor from a friend, with enclosure and all. This enclosure was PVC with a sliding door (almost seemed homemade). When the doors were closed, there was a small gap between them, but you wouldn’t think anything but a mourning gecko could fit through.
Well one day when I went to feed Mr. Davenport, he wasn’t on his usual perch waiting for his meal. I searched his enclosure (yes, the doors were fully closed), but to no avail! We searched our entire reptile room, but no evidence of him was found. Three months passed, of us looking for him here and there… nothing! Until one day I see my cats sitting and staring at the wall in the hallway, and right there on the wall (within their reach) was Mr. Davenport! He was completely fine and healthy, and even a bit larger than we last saw him. Who knows what adventures he experienced those three months!

I ended up getting cameras for my rooms so when I went away I could make sure the lights came on in the morning and off at night.

the hognose coming back 1g heavier is so funny- you don't gotta worry about that one, he's self-sufficient lmao

One of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies showed a student holding a snake in class.

My Savannah monitor escaped early on when it was a juvenile. I honestly have no idea how it actually escaped as the lock was still locked. Dude pulled a Houdini and my wife still to do this day is convinced I let it out to mess with her.

Great video as always.

My female corn snake passed away unexpectedly right after her 4th bday. It’s been 2 years and I still miss her. She was my first and only reptile.

Great video, Adam. I've had 5, 3 and of course 1. The worse thing was the death of my Eastern Black King, Wilson. I loved that guy, and still miss him. He passed during brumation.
He was the most "people curious" snake I ever had.

Escape tip for anoles:  keep your your fairly drab colored, they're attracted to vibrant greens and will try to get back to their plants after they realize they're lost.  This has worked for me with my knuckleheads.  (it also helps to keep the roach bin out of view)

Not me watching the first minute of the video going huh, yeah I had a tree frog in an enclosure and it’s gone lol

My poor mom was the unfortunate soul that found escaped snakes 20 years apart!

I genuinely love your content so much!!! I don't ever leave comments, but like, man, have to let you know! I've been watching you for years and you have Inspired me to no end! Thank you! Watching you develop in the community has been so violently freakin awsome. As a fellow Canadian reptile guy, thank you so much man! (For the common reptile people reading this, I totally recommend you look into chameleon geckos if you love micro critters!! They are my dream gecko, and honestly, they keep living past my expectations!!! Please be mindful tho, they are lil guys so do lots or research!!!)
