Ignorance of this fact might be some small defense for Henry VIII but not here. How horrible for that poor woman. She had produced 3 healthy girls. The doctors were a disgrace.
She didn't get custody because she committed adultry, didn't keep it quiet because she wanted to be with her lover full time, and then left without her kids.
Infidelities by both the wife and husband in aristocratic circles were tolerated if not spoken of and kept largely hidden.
Lady Spencer didn't do that because she WANTED to leave and be with her lover.
She wanted the marriage to end.
Her kids were all nanny kids.
She didn't take care of them, the nannies did.
When she decided to leave her husband, she just abandoned the kids.
I'm also guessing that her lover wanted nothing to do with the Spencer kids, at least, he was not going to agree to be financially responsible for them and not have more kids in his mansion.
So, I believe Diana that her mother abandoned Diana and the rest of the kids.
