So what is your favorite game for the Sega System 16 board? How about least favorite? Middlest favorite?

I grew up in a town with a population of under 1,000 people, and for many years the only arcade game in town was an Altered Beast cabinet at the only local gas station.  I played it so much that I could beat the game consistently on a single credit.  Then when the Genesis was released, my brother and I saved up money to buy one, and it came bundled with…Altered Beast.

I just now realised that the creature you ride in Golden Axe is one of the enemies from Altered Beast. Lol

Lovely to see the System 16 library presented cleanly in 4k with such high quality- probably the best clean footage of these games out there currently.  Thanks as always for the lovely captures, perfect audio balancing, and insightful overview of this board's library!

I was shocked to see that the ending of the Altered Beast arcade is super goofy. Turns out it's all a movie being filmed! The cast of characters remove their masks and costumes and have a beer to celebrate the wrap. I love it.

The Genesis and Master system versions in contrast have a serious ending that doesn't break the fourth wall.

The Light/Dark sides of Fantasy Zone 2 actually influences the ending you get, if you finish more stages on the Dark Side you get the good ending and if you finish more stages on Light Side, you get the bad ending.

There's also a true ending which have the same requirements as the good ending, plus using the Drop Tears on the final boss.

Edited with extra info since I beaten the game a few years ago and didn't remember everything right.

I will never tire of your radio buddy bits... it's always pure gold. Fall back on it as a skit anytime you need to!

Ricardo, Don't Touch!

That rolling arcade transition... chef's kiss

It hit me while watching this that the song Bulletproof by La Roux that was on the radio years ago is almost exactly the Fantasy Zone stage 2 theme.

"I told you not to trip too hard!"  Everyone needs a shaman like Joe

Good ol Gamesack before heading to bed

Good ol’ Sack time. Let’s get to it.

I can’t believe there are games still out there I haven’t played especially when I’ve watched about 100 hidden gems vids…I friggin love life 🙏🏽

Alex Shidd: The Lost Fards

QUARTET! I suddenly remember playing that in the arcade with my friends... The graphics felt very lush and detailed, and it was fun stealing people's stuff when they died, as they're frantically trying to put in more nickels before you can get there 😂

It's wild how the early system 16 games almost look 8 bit. The later games definitely got better

"There's something around here. You should investigate!" 🔍

21:10 Laughed so hard on the extended death yell that I choked on my food.  Game Sack delivers yet again!

Worth noting Quartet 2 also has twice as many levels as the original. It's a little jarring if you haven't played the original, because there's a massive difficulty spike midgame that goes away at level 17, as level 16 was the end of the original Quartet.
