Mount Gassan, located in Yamagata Prefecture, is one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains and one of the Haguro Three Mountains. Its gentle hiking trails and the short summer climbing season from July to September offer views of Mount Chokai and a profusion of blooming alpine plants.
At the summit is the Gassan Shrine main sanctuary, where prayers can be offered. It's a wonderful mountain for a mystical climbing experience.
