i love how calm chuuya in this. this is so much more canon than him screaming all the time. kokichi is a random ass kid, why would his opinion matter to him? chuuya doesn’t give a flying fck about this teenager that’s trying to figure out what makes him tick. dazai already took that place as his number one ragebaiter when they were kids, and nobody could ever be as annoying as him. dazai knows all of his weaknesses and insecurities and knows how to use them against chuuya. kokichi doesn’t know any of that yet, he’s just arguing to try to get the barest hints of control in this situation. and chuuya is fully aware of that, because he’s witnessed dazai doing similar things when they were younger.
he’s around genius manipulators 24/7. dazai, mori, and even ranpo all know how to piss him off. so he’s not upset in the slightest by kokichi, and he’s not intimidated by sherlock immediately knowing he’s a mafioso either. he also knows he’s likely one of the strongest people in the room, if he was paying attention to their reactions to his strength. so therefore, it makes perfect sense for him to be calm and collected a majority of time. nobody can really do anything to him physically in that room, and their words are nothing he hasn’t heard before. the only exception is sensitive topics like the sheep and stormbringer. all in all, five star review for chuuya’s character.
small reminder for the full part: arahabaki isn’t actually a god. it’s a singularity inside of chuuya. it came to be referred to as a god because the people in suribachi saw this massive explosion that made a whole-ass crater, and they had little to no explanation for it. so they were like: “…yeah somebody got a god called down to smite them.”
also also: arahabaki IRL isn’t a god of destruction, i don’t think? arahabaki has a lot of controversy and mystery surrounding it, and nobody can quite decide what it was. the internet says that it was associated with things like travel, protection, and also iron smelting? but i think the records weren’t very great, and so it was kind of mysterious. a lot of pop culture just used it whenever they wanted a mysterious, dangerous deity to refer to. i don’t remember where the idea of it being a god of calamity started in bsd, whether it actually outright said that or not. it could just be chuuya himself being called a god of destruction. i don’t fully know on that front. i believe the in-universe story for why the “god” got called down to suribachi was that a prisoner of war was being tortured, and his rage summoned it. that kind of ties in with the protection aspects of IRL arahabaki. and maybe the travel aspects too if you stretch it, since it was a prisoner of war from another country. and it also relates to the pop culture idea of it being a sort of vengeful god shrouded in mystery. so that could be why the locals started calling it arahabaki instead of anything else? then in-universe it may have become synonymous with being a god of destruction because of what happened to suribachi.
don’t know how to finish that, but that’s basically what arahabaki was, based on what i could gather from a quick search. and my own thoughts on it in the bsd world.
