It's like Lendl is the tough but admired dad, Wilander is the oldest, sensible brother, and Becker and McEnroe are the two naughty kids - and it was pretty much like that in the 1980s.
Mac: (to Lendl) How did you do at Wimbledon that year? Lendl: I lost in the semi's to Stefan. That's the year i beat you at Queens, both of you. Mac: Why did i ask...
If you ever saw Ivan do a post match interview - he remembered every damn point during the entire match. Incredible - even in this round table he remembers who he played in the quarters, semis, and finals of some podunk tournament 35 years ago. Unreal.
This is pure gold, when i see them i time travel 30yrs back in my mind. Lendl was the most consistent,Mc Enroe the most elegant,Becker the most powerful and Wilander the smartest/tactical are my opinon of these quartet. Bless them all because they made tennis back then exiting đ.
I love the fact that Ivan and John are polar opposites and still love trying to outdo each other but that deep down (not even that deep anymore) they really respect each other and even start to like each other a bit.
Pure delight. They ultra dominated their sport 35+ years ago, and they haven't conceded an inch of their fierce competitiveness, even though they enjoy joking about it. They can recall every point and detail, every loss or victory at will, and any opinion they formulate about the game today (see part 1) is insightful and potent. You can feel how fast and sharp their minds are, no wonder they lived on a higher plane. Ivan's authority, Mac's exuberance, Boris' straightforwardness, and Mats' subtelty, are gems to behold, so akin to the style they displayed on court back in the days. A great, great moment for those of us who admired those guys when we were kids...
