This week was the biggest hive splitting week we’ve ever had in our beekeeping operation as we worked through hundreds of bee colonies in Illinois to build new splits for honey production, pollination, and future growth. In this video we break down the science behind successful bee splits, why splits fail within 7–14 days, how population size affects colony growth, the dangers of over-splitting, and what it takes to turn spring splits into strong honey-producing hives. From queen management and brood balance to nectar flow strategy and canola bloom buildup, this is a real behind-the-scenes look at commercial beekeeping, scaling a bee operation, and the risks that come with aggressive hive expansion during one of the most important weeks of the entire beekeeping season.
