Catching up a little late. Missed the live. Covid is still here, sadly. Cases spiking right now. Glad you are feeling better, Joanne, and glad your case was a mild one. Keep resting up and healing. Covid is a weird virus that does weird things to our bodies. Derailed my entire life. Two years into long covid, still not back to full power. Got complacent on a cross country flight and didn’t mask. It's not worth it to take that chance. Take good care of yourselves, wear masks indoors in public spaces. Het well soon, Joanne. You are important to us, the Weee. ❤
Sadly there are still versions of slavery in America today. Legal immigrants being hired for very low wages, convicts working for companies for 1.25 an hour while the prison gets 6 dollars an hour etc.
Speaking of keeping it civil: I always told my kids they could say anything about anything to me as long as they didn't shout, cuss, or call names. Good rules for good discussions.
We are thankful Dr. Freeman that you recovered from Covid, for your brilliance, insight and ability to explain what and why we are experiencing it, in these terrifying times.
Joanne and Annie mentioned the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella). Some articles I'd read about measles outbreaks across the country mentioned that some people my age (and Joanne's) had no immunity for measles, and that there's a test to see if one has immunity or not.
My PCP ordered the test and found I had immunity for mumps but none at all for measles or rubella. Well, I got my 2 MMR shots at the pharmacy (one month apart) since they considered me to be like someone who had never been vaccinated.
This is not medical advice, I just thought I'd pass along my experience for people born in the late 1950s to early 1960s so they can check with a medical professional to see if they, too, may no longer have immunity. Even though my mom was diligent about getting us kids vaccinated, I figured I'd better check with my doc, and I'm glad I did. I remember having some of those childhood diseases as a kid and being absolutely miserable -- and, my dad had never had chicken pox, so we had to make sure he didn't catch it from us kids -- I absolutely didn't want to go thru that crap again, especially for preventable diseases.
Regarding face masks. You guys probably already know, but I will mention it anyway, the pale blue surgical masks were originally designed to stop surgeons from spluttering into the wound of the patient they were operating. They do not stop viruses coming out of the wearer, nor do they prevent the wearer inhaling viruses.
The masks that stop viruses and other very tiny things are the N-95 masks. A bit hard to breathe with them on, but at least they stop the nasties.
Democrats infighting is the very last thing we need. this year I will be again, voting blue, no matter who. But this is not a plan for my life. The Dems, who struggle the white line in the middle of the road will not be able to count on my vote after this midterm election.
Also, I have missed you, Joanne! I’m glad you’re feeling better. And I love this community.
