Sorry for the over explanation of the plot and story beats. I wanted to make sure people unfamiliar with the game could also watch the video and still understand what was going on. I'm planning to make more of these videos, with the next one being DEAD BY DAYLIGHT. I'm open to suggestions as well.
IMO they should include scenes of real world and the cycle to give more understanding about the lore like you'll see a scene of when Henry and Joey fighting and then other scenes of Henry in the cycle and whenever Henry plays a tape a visualisation of the tape shows
I think to make Sammy feel even less random, the tape would be the best option. I think having Chapter 1 as a sorta “first act” would only work if we don’t see ANYONE else in the studio, so that way the audience can get used to the creepy atmosphere and general vibe the rest of the movie’ll have. But I also think 1-2 more tapes than there are in chapter 1 will help balance out only these two from feeling slightly out of place.
It could be like a horror version of Space jam, which has a real life Henry enter a cig world of cartoons, and another idea to introduce Alison and killing off Alice would be her fighting Henry before the ink demon suddenly arrives behind her before grabbing Alice and killing her before she gets the chance to escape, during which something is thrown at the demon and makes him turn around before he can get to Henry while he and Boris are whisked away by an unknown figure, revealing themselves to be tom and Alison later.
I think the movie will be based in BATIM, since the movie is literally called "Bendy and the Ink Machine", I believe André Øvredal will cook, The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Scary stories to tell in the dark were very good.
I personally never minding Henry turning on the Ink Machine. It's him simply realizing that's the only path forward, as every door that seems to head somewhere else is locked, and activating things seems to open those doors for some reason. He knows Joey was incredibly quirky when it came to his ideas, and after walking out on him 30 years ago, he owes him at least a look around as far as he can get. Plus, after Chapter 5, it seems he's practically forced to as if not, he's trapped in the first level of the studio, alone...
Although I do like the idea of him meeting Sammy earlier on, and him convincing him to turn on the Ink Machine. The sole issue with that is Sammy is a creation of the Ink Machine, so if it hasn't been turned on yet, how does he exist? Henry and the Ink Demon (without form) are core features of the cycle, and thus can appear without the main engine running, and the first level, is pretty much a program booting in safe mode. Very little happens, besides the Ink Demon messing with Henry, free of burdens, free of his prison of a body, as he's still Bendy (who is incredibly mischivous), just trapped in a decaying form. Anyways, if there is a way to get around that plot hole, I wouldn't mind Sammy being the one to convince Henry to turn on the Ink Machine. Although I don't which I prefer as an intro.
The way I’d establish the Cycle looping over and over without it being over explained, is that the opening of the movie is Henry going to Joey’s apartment and them speaking, but it’s like much friendlier, like to old chums catching up, and ends with Joey asking Henry to visit the studio.
And then when Henry plays The End reel, he’s back again at Joey’s apartment but it’s more in line with the game’s cutscene, more sinister. That way the audience can infer that yes, Henry is trapped in some sort of loop
a prequel of batim where its the story we learn in batdr where we follow joey in the human world, his drama and business in the studio and with henry, and around midway the creation of the ink machine as the world around him drives hime to extreme measures - if they wanted to do something more than the game itself, i think this would an interesting take. or they do a film along the books that were written. Those would be interestiing too
Personally, I would have adapted the original game to five films based on each chapter, which I find as a good nod for how the original game was released. I Also though of 6 Needledrops for the films with one for all films and one for each. Those being:
Smile Darn Ya Smile for all films We'll meet again for chapter 1 Willow Weep for me for chapter 2 Dream a little dream of me for chapter 3 Heart and soul for chapter 4 That's life for chapter 5
I also thought of the first film starting with the "be nice to everyone on your way up because you're going to meet the same people on the way down" quote that appears in chapter 3 and the cold opening being an in universe documentary about joey drew studios hosted by Joey Drew. However the film glitchs at times and clips are shown of joey mistreating his employees to the point of either breaking down or being close to act violently. I want such opening to instill ergophobia (fear of the workplace). I also wanted the audio logs to be more supernatural and that when they reach their most intense level they show visions of the past that Henry sees and walks through but can't interfere. It's Something in the style of "it's a wonderful life" and brings a dark question if escaping from an abusive environment is really a good idea. If you're interested, I'll tell you more.
