What should you do in your organic garden during the week of October 9th to 16th? 🌱 I have four important tasks for you that will help prepare your garden for winter and the next season.

According to the Ecological Moon Guide, it's leaf quarter. The weather in Pomerania is forecast to be windy, and there's a chance of rain, so it's worth adapting your work to the conditions in your garden. We don't have to do everything in one weekend!

🌳 1. Planting trees, shrubs, and perennials
Autumn is a good time to plant and transplant many plants, as the soil is still warm and moist. Bare-root trees and shrubs are already available, so it's worth using this time for autumn planting. However, remember not to walk on soggy soil—wait until it dries out a bit.

🌱 2. Final sowing of catch crops
We're preparing the vegetable beds and the soil in the greenhouse for the next season. This is the last moment to sow catch crops, so it's worth choosing fast-germinating plants, such as buckwheat, mustard, and oilseed radish. I also recommend carefully selected catch crop mixtures, including MP1.

⚠️ Be careful with crop rotation! Don't sow mustard and oilseed radish before the brassicas you plan to grow in the same area next year.

🐛 3. Autumn sticky bands on fruit tree trunks
Remember how we used to apply sticky bands in spring to limit pest migration? Now it's time for autumn bands! They can help stop female moths from climbing up tree trunks to the treetops, where they lay eggs. Bands must be applied correctly and inspected regularly.

🍂 4. Use fallen leaves
Don't burn leaves—they're valuable organic material that we can use in the garden. It's best to shred them with a lawn mower, add them to compost, or make leaf mold. This material helps improve the soil structure and retain moisture.

🌿 I don't use chemical pesticides or fertilizers in my garden. I focus on natural solutions, organic matter, and caring for soil life.

🎙️ This Thursday, a new episode of the "Naturalni o Ogrodach" podcast! My guest will be Magda Przybylak-Zdanowicz, author of the Ecological Lunar Guide. We'll talk about the lunar calendar, what we can expect from the weather, and what harvests Magda predicts for 2027. I invite you to listen!

💬 A question for you: what do you do with fallen leaves in your garden? Do you compost them, make leaf mold, or perhaps you use them in other ways? Let us know in the comments; let's share our experiences!
