Wonderful

Wonderful interview and so nice to hear Johnny speak.

My all time favorite musician.  No one could play the blues or ballads like Johnny Hodges.  It turns out that being a bandleader was indeed too much of a headache for him, because  later that same year, 1955, Hodges rejoined the Ellington band and remained with Duke until  his death in 1970.

Just the greatest 🙂♥️

After 40+ years of loving his saxophonic voice, what a delight to hear him speak for the first time. 26:11 You could go see him and his orchestra play until 2am for a buck....

Fantastic hearing Hodges speak and I can relate so well when he said about the headaches of being a bandleader .

Nice to hear Johnny Hodges speak, I suppose he was only 48 here.

Interesting that Richie Powell's name was mentioned. He died a year later in the auto accident that also took the life of Richie's wife and, most notably, the great Clifford Brown. 😢

Incredible piece of history.

Not sure Johnny was telling the truth about being "15 years younger than Duke" as Duke was born in 1899 and Johnny in 1907...anyway his speaking voice is very smooth and laid back just like his playing...greatest player of  ballads ever!

Thank you very much for sharing this, dear Loren!

Sounds like the interviewer was more interested in hearing himself talk then letting Johnny express himself and his ideas

Thank you so much for uploading!

So awesome. Thank you!

I've been watching his lip placement, he plays to one side of his mouth, incredable vibrato🤔

Just to hear Johnny talk is like a 10,000 Star Downbeat rating......

Hodges didn't give charlie parker his props.

This interviewer annoys the fuck out of me
