Dr Abrams never ceases to amaze me with the depth of his knowledge expressed with a marvelous sense of compassion and non critical acceptance of human peculiarities. Also entertaining, I love his corny jokes.

Practicing Dönme (Donmeh) do not live in in Syria. There are just a few dönme communities left and they live in Istanbul and Izmir.

Essays by Walter Benjamin was titled "illuminations." Any indication that Benjamin or his friend Gershom Scholem were influenced by Sabbateanism?

Didn't Shabbetai Tzvi say he is "matir assurim" he has permitted forbidden things and he married his wife and a Sefer Torah?
