I do have the creature comfort of the Revini Labs remote shutter trigger, which gives a lot more flexibility for framing, but your focus technique is inspired.

This is so timely, Mr. Van Cleave! I have the advantage of a dress maker's dummy set to my height for focus and flash set ups. She's positioned over a masking tape cross on the floor. I simply focus on the highlight on her "neck". This works perfectly right up until I step on the bulb to trigger the shutter - I always, ALWAYS lean forward a tad and, so, out of focus!
For seated shots, I stuck a tiny little diamanté on a pillow, and sit it upright in the chair. Yes, I have bejazzled a pillow! Again, perfect if I could only keep from leaning into the shot! 😔
I'm currently working on paper negative reversals and need to overexpose by three stops - my dummy doesn't mind staying still for four minutes or having four full powered flash pops going off in her face over the course of 25 seconds. Unfortunately, I can't convince anyone else to put up with such abuse! 😁

Thank you for this video (and, of course, all of your previous ones!) I'm wanting to set up something like a Velophot/Afghan Camera situation - even if I wind up separating the two processes into two different boxes, taking and making; and your experiments and videos provide such helpful inspiration and information. I'm truly appreciative of you, your time and your effort.

I just made some paper negatives last week! Then I contact printed them to send out as postcards!

Ha! This is great and funny, I like shooting video of myself. I guess I should have had a couple of siblings! My neighbors are too old or sick to become actors in my home movies. Get ready, here comes winter.

I usually shoot paper negatives on MG paper with an MG00 filter over the lens to reduce contrast, but the ISO goes down to 3. A couple of powerful electronic flashes placed 4.5 feet away might work. Thx for the video--it'll get me experimenting!

Fantastic stuff!!! I love the focusing aid you made, I used to set up my Speed Graphic on a tripod and focus on another tripod in the area of where i would pose ... I was also using film, so got to use smaller apertures!!! I also used myself for many photos because I am always here!!!

Great video as usual - the inspiration I needed.  Joe, perhaps an unrelated question - I have some Harmon Direct Positive just begging me to break the seal on.  Before I even begin to experiment (after watching more of your instructional videos) I need to know, since this is a positive paper:

Is it like slide film, in that, if the image is to light, it is over exposed and needs less exposure, and if to dark, it is under exposed and needs more exposure?  

I can't seem to find that being addressed.  I have watched some of your Harmon Direct Positive Paper videos but it has been some time since.

Why not use flash?
Also why not incident metering? Metering off you face will shade the part that is metered.

I never heard of paper negatives. How are you getting finished prints from the negatives?
