Dear Professor,
My name is [Your Name], and I am a first-year biology student at the university. I recently learned about your marine biology course for next semester, and I became very interested in taking it. I have always enjoyed learning about ocean life and marine ecosystems, and I hope to study this field more deeply in the future.
However, I discovered that the course is only open to third- and fourth-year students. Because of this restriction, I cannot register for the class without special permission.
I would like to ask if it would be possible for you to give written permission so I can enroll in the course. I am very motivated and willing to work hard.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Academic Discussion
I agree more with the professor’s opinion that standardized tests are not very effective. Although these tests can measure basic knowledge, they do not show students’ real abilities. Many students can memorize information for an exam, but they may not truly understand the subject or think critically about it. In addition, some intelligent students become nervous during tests and receive low scores even when they know the material well.
I also partly disagree with Helena’s idea that standardized tests are the only practical solution. Teachers can evaluate students in other ways, such as projects, presentations, and class participation. These methods help students develop creativity and communication skills instead of only memorization.
For these reasons, I believe standardized tests should not be the main way to evaluate students’ learning and academic performance.
