In this guitar lesson, you’ll learn essential 80s pop rhythm guitar techniques inspired by classic artists like Cyndi Lauper, Talking Heads, and Duran Duran.
I’ll break down the unique chord voicings and rhythmic approaches that defined 1980s pop guitar—focusing on the bright, open-sounding shapes built around 2nds, 4ths, and 5ths that give this style its signature sound.
These 80s-style rhythm guitar parts aren’t just for retro vibes—they translate perfectly to modern pop, indie, and funk-inspired playing, making them a great addition to your overall guitar vocabulary.
This lesson is designed for beginner to intermediate guitar players looking to improve their rhythm playing, expand their chord knowledge, and develop a more stylistically versatile approach.
Topics covered:
80s pop rhythm guitar techniques
Unique chord voicings (no 3rds, suspended sounds)
Groove and feel for pop guitar
How to apply these ideas to modern songs
If you’re looking to sound tighter, more musical, and stylistically aware in your rhythm playing, this lesson will give you practical tools you can start using right away.
