Guarantee the landing would not have been nearly as successful if the two pilots didn’t have those flawless mustaches

I swear, in every shot of a New Yorker seeing that plane, I can hear them thinking, "Oh, no, not again..."

In real life the aviation authorities quickly determined Captain Sully did what was necessary to avoid potential tragedy and to save everyone on board. On top of supervising the evacuation to make sure everyone got off the plane he walked up and down the cabin of his flooding plane TWICE to make sure everyone had escaped and then left himself and continued to help his passengers and crew. He was undoubtedly a hero and if it weren’t for his brave actions and decades of experience the Miracle on the Hudson could have instead been a tragedy

The first ferry boat captain is the actual ferry captain in the movie.

I lived in New York City at the time of this incident and I can tell you that it was an incredible feeling to know that everyone survived!

The shot with the single boat at 5:27 is cool and all, but the reality was much cooler. When it actually happened, there were dozens of boats surrounding the plane, picking up the passengers within 2 minutes of touchdown. The citizens of New York responded faster than the coast guard.

A lot is said about the professionals executing their jobs perfectly, but we should throw some respect the passengers way, limited training in such a scenario. They didn't panic, they didn't GRAB THEIR FRIGGIN BAGS... They deserve a lot of the credit.

Rarely, in the history of the universe, have things gone so wrong only to be balanced by the things that went right.

At times when we lose hope in humanity, it is good to watch this.

Sullys experience with a glider plane probably saved everyone's life that day. A hell of a pilot. God bless him.

I am a New Yorker and this was one of the most incredible days ever

A friend of mine is an actress. After thinking that she was the only New York actress never to appear in Law & Order, she finally got cast. As she is acting on the docks (picking up boxes and talking to the detectives) she realizes that no one is looking at her. The cast and crew were watching Sully land the plane in the Hudson right behind her!

Captain Sully only did one thing "wrong" that day:

He turned on the APU - Auxiliary Power Unit LONG before it said to in the check list.

That was like Step 15, he did it as soon as he realized it all rolled back.  Had he followed that check list to the letter - This would have been a whole DIFFERENT outcome.  Turning on the APU gave them the necessary avionics to make that ditching successful.  That step has now been moved to the top of the list, if possible to do so, as a result.

The most unrealistic thing in this video is how fast traffic is moving across the George Washington Bridge.

I remember how bitterly cold it was that day. When I heard the news I prayed for those folks. Seeing some jump in the water blows my mind that they survived

List to the real ATC audio. Sully's demeanor is unflappable and dead calm but it's still terrifying to listen to.

I'm from NJ.
When the going gets tough, THIS is what people from NY/NJ are like.
Not ONE SINGLE person perished.
Help arrived in MINUTES.

Bravo to the pilots and river rescuers and divers.

In NYC seeing a plane at building heights is a terrifying scene. Yet no one died. What a hero!

The first original  Sully was performed by Carlos Dardano, a one-eyed Salvadoran airline pilot flying a 737. Both engines went dead in the middle of a thunderstorm  at 30,000 ft over the Gulf of Mexico and he glided it all the way to Lousiana and landed "dead stick" in the backyard of a NASA compound. Not even a cup of coffee spilled, not even one scratch made on the plane.   This pilot had his eye shot out by an AK-47 bullet fired by a terrorist while flying a Cessna taking off from a war zone and he still flew 2 hours and landed safely, 5 years prior to the 737 Lousiana incident.   His  daughter is now a jet fighter pilot and an airliner pilot.

The 737 had its engines replaced in the same spot and flew out of there by Boeing for inspection. Amazing how they switched  engines outdoor and on the spot.

Something younger people might not understand is how traumatized we were for the first decade after 9/11. I remember when the news first broke about this and we didn’t really know anything, everyone automatically assumed it was a terror plot or a thwarted terror plot. We were all so in the mindset of 9/11 that it being an accident wasn’t even on our radar. Kinda like today when something happens at a school people immediately get concerned it’s a shooting. We were in that mindset but with the 9/11 trauma.
