My heart goes out to George Kooymans, the lead guitarist who suffers from ALS now. The band had to stop performing as a result of that. Rock on, George!
Just to show what this band means in the Netherlands where they are from... They recently retired. And across the whole country, synchronized, people put on this song, they put speakers in their yards, church bells played this song, train station speakers played this song. It was all over the whole country. To show the love for this amazing band.
Caution ⚠️ I have NEVER been able to drive under the speed limit while listening to this song. And I HAVE come close to blowing my speakers every damn time. 🤯 👍
This was Golden Earring's big hit in America. But this Dutch rock band have no fewer than 26 studio albums and 6 live albums. With five charts in the American Billboard Hot 100, Golden Earring is the most successful Dutch act in America, with Twilight Zone they even achieved a number 1 hit in 1982 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks. In total, six singles and eight albums made it to Billboard's leading charts.
In March 2021 they were forced to stop because founder / singer / guitarist George Kooymans was diagnosed with the muscle disease ALS.
This band is worth going through their discography with so many very strong pearls of songs.
Very underrated rock band.
This is a Dutch band that had international success for quite a while. This song came out in 1973. "Twilight Zone" in 1982. Two of their best & most memorable.💙
This is my dogs' official theme song. He's a miniature Australian Shepherd and he was born blind. I rescued him at 8 weeks old and named him Radar. He's now 12 years old and the love of my life. ❤️
In 1974 I was in college studying Radio/TV Production and Golden Earring was on a US tour. They came to the city where the college was and some of the students of the college, me included were asked to be their Roadies for the night. We unloaded their equipment, helped set it up, did security for the concert and after took all the equipment down and loaded it back into their truck. VERY HARD WORK!!!!!!!
Great song. The whole album is pretty good, too. Brings me back to my senior year of HS. I was dating a girl who lived about an hour's drive away. This song was one of my go-to numbers. I think this version was the single cut.
Seeing you react to Golden Earring is kind of bittersweet, because the band just announced in February that they are quitting after SIXTY YEARS together, over 50 of them with the same four guys as in this video. Guitarist George Kooymans and bassist Rinus Gerritsen formed the band in 1961 when they were 13 and 15 years old. They are retiring because Kooymans was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). A very sad end to a great band.
