Ettore Majorana was one of the most brilliant and mysterious physicists of the twentieth century. Some saw him as a genius on the level of Galileo and Newton, a mind capable of understanding the secrets of matter before the world was ready. Others saw him as a broken, isolated man, crushed by the weight of what modern physics was becoming.

This video does not offer a final answer. It tells a story.

We follow Majorana from his childhood in Catania to Enrico Fermi's circle in Rome, from the laboratories of Leipzig to his strange years of isolation, and finally to the night of March 25, 1938, when he boarded a ship from Naples to Palermo and vanished into one of Italy's greatest unsolved mysteries.

Did Ettore Majorana die at sea, escape under a false identity, hide inside a monastery, or disappear because he understood too early the destructive future of nuclear science?
