RAKIM explained that question on the BREAKFAST CLUB, He’s not going to allow his artistry to be commercialized and used
which would tarnish his legacy. He said over exposure has ruined most artists and icons and he will continue to make his own legacy not have others dictate it for him.

You mentioned that Rakim should teach. Universities have been looking at his work for some time. On May 21, 2025, Rakim was awarded the George Peabody Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Music and Dance in America, the highest honor bestowed by the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University. The only Hip-Hop Artist to hold that distinction along side other musical greats. Rakim has been putting out a lot of underground stuff for years if you are in the know, and has remained relevant. One of his bars mentioned "the underground king controlling the surface again". He was talking about himself.

Rakim pioneered flow and lyrical dexterity. There's nobody who can bend and blend words so effortlessly it almost sounds like an instrument. He's the John Coltrane of Hip-Hop; the greatest to bless a microphone 🎙️
