Do you know what "goat-pulling" is? Have you ever seen a yurt being assembled and disassembled in a race? At the Nomad Games, you can see this and many other unusual competitions, including intellectual ones.
Last year, in Kyrgyzstan, the creator of the Nomad Games invited us to the sixth Games. We watched the presentation on the screen and were thrilled to come to Bishkek to witness this large-scale event with our own eyes. It all began with a spectacular Opening Ceremony at the Bishkek Arena. Representatives from 110 countries arrived to participate in the Games, and they all marched in front of a stadium full of guests. The heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) also watched the Opening Ceremony with us at the Bishkek Arena. This year, two important events converged at the same time and place.
Our friend lives in Bishkek, and we practically didn't have to prepare for the trip: we didn't have to plan or research routes. He thought of and organized everything. We watched the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games, traveled from the capital to Issyk-Kul, selected sports and cultural venues, and tried to fit everything in. The schedule of competitions, master classes, and concerts was tight, and they were held in various venues: the Kyrchyn ravine, the Cholpon-Ata Hippodrome, the Gazprom Sports and Recreation Center, the Rukh Ordo Cultural Center, and others. We wanted to be here and there. So, the week was packed. We watched horse racing, wrestling, the Kok-Boru game, golden eagle hunting, mounted shooting, arm wrestling and weightlifting competitions, and a yurt assembly/disassembly competition.
Plus, it was also a time to meet up with friends. So, in addition to visiting the sports venues, there were friendly get-togethers, reminiscing, and funny stories. Much was left behind the scenes.
We met interesting people, learned new things about nomadic culture every day, listened to national music, ate local dishes, and admired the nature, clean air, and beauty of Issyk-Kul.
We felt the atmosphere of the Games—so bright and friendly. We fell in love with Kyrgyzstan even more.
The next Nomad Games will be held in Tatarstan in 2028. We will wait and hope that the organizers will be able to preserve the spirit and the main message of this grand competition of strong, agile, and skilled people from all over the world.
