We flew into Brindisi and did something most people never do — we headed north. Way north. Into the forgotten side of Puglia that tourists skip and travel guides barely mention.
This is Part 1 of our three-part Puglia research series. We're a British couple in the early stages of planning a permanent move to Italy, and over five days we visited 21 towns across the entire region to find out which ones could genuinely become our new home.
In Part 1 we cover eight towns across the north: Barletta, Torremaggiore, San Severo, Lesina, Serracapriola, Lucera, Deliceto, and Gravina in Puglia.
We look at what it's actually like to live in these places — property prices, local amenities, community feel, and the honest pros and cons of each town. No tourist highlights. Just real research.

My wife and I are also looking for a house in Italy. We are keen on the regions of Abruzzo and Le Marche. It’s been 2-3 years of trips and trying to find the right property with no luck so far. We’re going to just go and rent somewhere in Teramo next spring and keep looking whilst there.
I assume one of you does video editing for a job? Your videos are very slick and professional.

towns? I want to visit Polignaro a
Mare and Lecce for sure and then
pick other spots when I’m there.

Stay out of the ZTL’s mate, just not worth the trouble. The restrictions seem to be more relaxed at the weekends but you can often park just outside for very cheap or free.
We’ve just come back from Abruzzo, spent the week there last week. It’s a challenging region due to the Sea to Mountain differential however , I would HIGHLY recommend visiting Scanno. The lake and the town are both beautiful and it’s absolutely worth the visit.
