Wow. For many years I have greatly admired the superheroes wearing that X-Alps t-shirt. But none as much as I admire this one in the video (you!) today. Kick ass job, getting on that chair. Keep rocking Nick, you're such an inspiration!

I think this is the first time I've watched something like this. I've always wondered how I'd respond to a major injury like I'm sure plenty of us have. It's Incredible to see what it takes to improve, day by day, movement by movement - I'm learning lots. Thanks for letting us be part of it!

I just lost the ability to walk with  my left leg, after falling over I got stuck on the floor for 3 hours, I finally got up by kneeling on a cushion and pulling myself up from an open window, I am yet to get a wheel chair so I don’t know all of the tricks yet. I scare the hell out the nurses by jumping from bed to wheel chair cause I saw it done on tv , seeing your video gives me hope in trying out new ideas

Also, please update us pilots (if you've any more info) on the cause of your accident.
Mine in July was bad planning (not carrying water during a short flight, which unexpectedly developed into a long flight!) leading to heat exhaustion leading to poor concentration on landing.
But all I got was a fractured wrist & impact damage around my hip.
Result: an arm in plaster, a week in a wheelchair, then 3 weeks on crutches.
It pales into insignificance compared to your condition, but I still want to share my error to help other pilots.

I’m pretty good at these transfers but I’m stocky. I was always kinda medium and strong. My PT makes me do all these crazy transfers I’m bad at. I cant get in the chair sideways. I either face the chair and pull myself in it and twist at the end or do it how you did it.  The only bad part about going in backwards is I sometimes pants myself and nobody wants to look at a 44 yr old in a diaper.

Thank you Nick to let to know you progress! As we know a smart and focuses human can adapt to situation evolving to control it. In my opinion you need a "safe" arch around you in order to pull yourself up with better leverage than your triceps. My best wishes for your progress! 😉

Hiya, having watched folk trying to learn floor-to-chair transfers for a few months, I have to say your progress is really impressive! It'll get easier as your technique gets better, you get stronger and you get the perfect wheelchair for you. Keep it up, you're doing really well!
