On July 11, 1928, Nikolai Bukharin met secretly with Lev Kamenev, the leader he himself had helped to overthrow. According to the note Kamenev took, Bukharin called Stalin "Genghis Khan" and said he would wipe them all out. A year and a half later, he had lost Pravda, the Comintern, and his position in the Politburo.

This documentary explains why the man Lenin called "the favorite of the entire party" lost, even though his warnings came true: the NEP and the alliance with the peasantry, the defeat of the Left Opposition alongside Stalin, the 1928 grain crisis and the extraordinary measures, the "right-wing deviation," forced collectivization and the famine of 1932-1933, the trip to Paris in 1936 and the decision to return, the arrest in 1937, the trial in 1938, and the rehabilitation in 1988.
