Been driving an EV since 2019. Never ever going to own or drive an ICE car ever again.

$2.70 a litre for diesel in Wodonga Victoria will sell a lot of EV’s. When I moved here mid COVID I had the second Tesla in town and I was one of the first owners of a Zappi home charger,
Thanks to Everything Electric selling the sizzle!

Aus has 30% of people in apartments, UK 40%, but Norway has 50% and they make it work easily, and 34% of all cars in Norway are already pure EV, so let's stop using this as an excuse for a slow transition.

Thanks Robert. Both our cars are electric now. Not going back!

Our visit to London recently was an eye opener, no smog! Also we went to Hong Kong and the same thing, 10 years ago you could hardly see the many skyscapers.

If we can get the cost of street charging to be close to that of home charging, that might just be game over.

I wish Everything Electric Show would pivot more to public transportation modes. Not everyone wants or needs a private vehicle (electric or otherwise), be it for reasons of age, health status, monetary reasons or belief in sustainability. We need a balanced approach.

Robert, it's not the take up of EVs and solar that bring people to your shows. It's firstly your passion in your YouTube videos, and your shows that brought so many of us to make the leap. Our neighbours and work colleagues have seen the change in us, and have started doing what we did because you started this channel. Thank you from Trujillo Perú.

Very interesting interview. Living in Italy, I can only envy a place with local utility that has a top manager driving around in a Zeekr. Here our utility managers have diesel luxury cars, have no idea how to charge an EV but write down prescriptions and places how and where to put chargers. These idiots commissioned a study (some ten years ago) to the usual friend-of-a-friend consultant company, to evaluate how many chargers would our region (2 million people) require by 2030. The answer was - I kid you not - 50.

Skin in the game, that's the key of any successful service company.

No more ICE cars for my family! Been driving an EV since 2022, absolutely loving it. Just sold our other, old ice car last month, we are so free and happy 🤗 we are not polluting our lovely Sydney, no more! Happy charging 🔋

Why would anyone NOT drive electric, unless there’s literally no other option.
Our diesel SUV is now AUD$275 to completely fill with diesel from empty. Our Long Range Model Y is AUD$12 to fill from empty, for about half the range, so $24 for the same range as the diesel. It’s even less if we’re charging from our own solar rather than off peak grid power.
Guess why we hardly ever drive the diesel. TOTAL no brainer.
And then there’s maintenance as well- the Tesla needs almost no maintenance, whilst the diesel is around $800 average per year.

the datacenters people are upset about are the ones being used to waste massive power on ai slop and the ones being used for mass surveillance

@pauln0371 2 weeks ago

Well I've been saying for years that every new build building whether Resi or Commercial should by law have to have Solar Panels installed so it would cut down our reliance on the grid but also cut our emissions. It isn't rocket science it's just common sense...

Sadly the national grid here in the UK has been privatised! And we all know how well that worked for all the ex state/tax payer owned utilities😢. There is now an advert claiming the grid is not able to cope with electricity demand.

@1MartinR 2 weeks ago

In the UK, the main issue is upgrading the electricity distribution infrastructure to get the power from distant locations where it can be generated economically to the population areas where it is needed.

The main threat is local opposition to the disruption and visual impact - more and bigger pylons, service roads, substations, large batteries, solar farms etc.

Add to this the fact that the economic benefits are long term and so you need strong government leadership to force it through. We cannot fail due to local action groups saying "yes, but not here" or "why not stick with fossil fuels and avoid the investment cost".

There will be political parties who will try to bring the change shuddering to a halt. Don't let them.

It's worth mentioning that data centres for operating YouTube, or other streaming services, are vastly different to the data centres for operating AI.

It's the AI ones that need gigawatts of compute for the training and the responses it creates. Basically massive farms of graphics cards.

The EV parked in our driveway uses 24.6 kWh per 100km

On an EV plan we use 32 kWh at 7 kw, we can put 28 kWh into the EV. On days where the car is home, we charge from solar.

To put it in context, the load on the network is negligible given that power prices are extremely low midnight to 4am.

Even though we import as much as we export, our bill is $90 a month including running the car.

Apart from a defined period , we do not draw electricity from the grid 99.9% of the time.

In Norway one of the Nærøyfjord-Aurlandsfjord boats (UNESCO World Heritage)is electric which is charged on either end of the trip. The 1.8MW battery gets 50% from the grid connection and 50% from a battery on the quay to lower strain on grid. The boat hasa two connecting cables.
The car noise levels in Norway are noticably lower than in Australia due to amount of EVs.
