7.46: James, you're wrong for rating a stunningly good song absurdly low because of your personal taste instead of in a way that reflects the actual quality of it. It's fine for you to not find it your cup of tea - death metal isn't mine - but insulting them and the talented singers is not fine. I would not say death metal is crap just because it's not my favoured flavour. I almost feel like making you listen to 'Soda Pop' is a punishment you deserve. I absolutely love 'Soda Pop' because it is a far more clever song than either of you have discerned, having three distinct layers of meaning, and also because it helps me move and eases my pain. This song is like the best thing that ever happened to my shoulders. 10.32: Looking almost as tormented as you deserve.
11.44: Why would if feel like anime? This is a most bizarre complaint; it's not supposed to feel like anime. The animation style is from the people did the Spiderverse animation, apparently.
You're not wrong to have some issues around the K-Pop industry's practices and the fandom: Just so you know, the film is not afraid to take aim at that. The Saja Boys embody toxic aspects of the K-Pop culture and industry. Baby Saja represents infantilisation, Abby is about sexualisation, Romance stands for parasocial relationships (exactly as mentioned at 13.15), Mystery is about the intrusiveness of fans and media, and the lack of privacy. Jinu probably represents the perfect image the stars and idols have to present no matter how they feel inside, which is a major theme of the film. Also, the fickle fan who changes t-shirts every time something happens is personifying (and parodying) the fans' demanding and sometimes irrational behaviour, as is the entirety of 'Your Idol'. As for the manufacturing, that takes skill as well, so dismissing it as 'pushing a few buttons' is bonkers and incredibly disrespectful. It also doesn't change that the artists are incredibly talented. Heck, look up EJAE's story: The industry told her that her voice wasn't good enough and now, she's become a phenomenon overnight thanks to this film. It's not a coincidence that one of Zoey's lines in 'How It's Done' is, 'Took blood, sweat, and tears to look natural'.
Should've chosen the full version of 'Your Idol'; the second verse has things to say. 15.56: That's the idea.
21.08: Seriously dude, get your head out of your arse and stop talking like 'mAnUfAcTuRiNg' doesn't take skill, or talent, or training, or work. 22.08: Yeah, you are. It's like saying that a person wearing make-up doesn't have a real face. Good make-up isn't about concealment; it's about enhancing what's already there. No one's demanding you enjoy something that's not you, but trying to claim it's bad because it's not your thing is ridiculous.
35.30: A bit late to claim you 'appreciate' it now, after spending the entire vid acting like you're being tortured.
FTR, I'm not a K-Pop fan; this film was my first introduction to it. I actually watched the film because I heard covers of 'Golden' and 'Your Idol' and found out about the film that way.
RIP, Kuma the cat. I hope you're having fun on the other side of the rainbow bridge with my sweet Rosie, Casper, Caz, Al, Diamond, Cindy, Frankie, Ginger, and Tinkerbell. I teared up hearing that song, even without being able to hear a word of it, except when James sang/spoke some of it. Thank you for that, James; the song is getting a damn 10/10 because there's something magical about the love behind the (to me) incomprehensible sound.
