Hi, I'm Shiro. I'm a working dad raising two daughters under 4 in Yokohama, Japan 🇯🇵
A typhoon kept us home for four days of our holiday, and we parents are tired too. So on the last day, can I beat the tiredness for a fun family day at a faraway aquarium? Not everything goes as planned… but that's what a real day off looks like for our family.

0:00 the last day of Silver Week — can Dad beat the tiredness and make it a fun day? 🇯🇵
1:29 French toast for breakfast, with cinnamon for the first time 🍞
3:17 changing clothes, hurrying to leave by 9 👕
3:56 a typhoon messed up the trains, and we have no car 🚃
4:37 plan B — a taxi and the bullet train, at eight times the cost 🚕
5:48 we reach the bullet train station, but every seat is taken 🚄
7:25 a packed station, Umi on my shoulders, and a blue sky 🌤️
8:05 we made it to the aquarium 🐟
9:03 the jellyfish corner, where both girls go quiet 🪼
9:43 an early lunch break — udon for four, $32 🍜
11:16 the dolphin show, and Umi's first real dolphins 🐬
13:04 the show is over, and the hard parts feel worth it 💛
13:34 the bullet train home — this time, we all get seats 💺
14:06 Umi falls asleep in Dad's arms 😴
— Our Family —
👨 Shiro (me) — 36, desk worker, holding Umi on a packed bullet train
👩 My wife — desk worker, short on sleep from Fuu's night waking
👧 Umi — 3 years old, seeing real dolphins for the first time
👶 Fuu — 1 year old, watching the dolphin show with her fingers in her mouth

Where do you like to take your kids or grandkids on a day off? 🐬
Please tell me which country you are watching from, too 🌍
In Japan 🇯🇵, our girls love the aquarium, especially the dolphin show.
I read every comment 💛
