I Stayed at this hotel in 1982. A young 21 year old lad. One of the reps was there. The scottish guy. His welcome bannter was as seen on the video. What a time to be in Benidorm. The Peseta was the currecy. So so cheap. Am now 55 amd go bsck regulary. It's changed beyond anyones imaginations. This video evokes memorys. The future awaits us but i have a very special memory that and it belongs to me and only me. Lifes to short guys and girls just enjoy.
Gosh those barbecues were LETHAL. Hordes of people completely legless on wine I wouldn't even cook with today, never could find your own coach at the end of the evening, and a violent hangover the next morning. Ahh, happy days!
the two girls with the spanish boys pretending to leave the airport RIGHT AT THE START , actually worked in my sisters bar in benidorm in 1982 . they were asked to act this out .and apparently got paid for it ,, lol.
I was in Benidorm in 83, first holiday abroad at hotel Avenida and we had a ball! I remember seeing this on TV or something similar. I was a Rep for Thomson holidays 6 years later😊
I was working in Reservations for Portland Holidays when this came out. The story about the false teeth actually happened to one of our reps in Rhodes, and was in the Reps' newspaper which went to all tour operator offices throughout the Med. She worked in the office in the winter and told us the story long before this. Good tale though.
remember going to the bar b que in 1979 missed the free drinks cooking a fricken sausage on the fire, been back to Benidorm a gazillion times since but wish it was the way it was then, oh and wish I was the age I was then.
I'm visiting a friend in Finestrat at the moment. She took me out to see the restaurant at around 19 minutes. It's completely derelict now but she remembers going there as a child, when it was really popular. Many of the waiters in the video are her friends' dads. Apparently they really enjoyed working there and it was the first time the area opened up to tourists, so they got to meet people from all over the world. They had never seen this footage before, so she sent it to them. There's an absolutely incredible view of the whole of Benidorm if you continue up the hill behind the restaurant.
Reminds me of the TV program Benidorm, at the start, the 2 spanish chaps saying goodbye to the english girls, just about to board flight home, that reminds me of Mateo, and the chap with the Emu, reminds me of a character called Wink MacAndrew, and it's based at Pelicanos. Wonder if the writer Derren Litten got his ideas from this documentary.
