Jericoacoara became famous precisely for being difficult to reach — until the day it became too easy to get there. In this video, I investigate how the airport, social media, and mass tourism transformed the village and jeopardized the isolation it sold.

I tell how Jericoacoara emerged, how the Washington Post report created its first major narrative, and how electricity, the National Park, and the new lodging model changed local life. I also examine the explosion in visitor numbers, the fees, the land disputes, and the fight for access to the village.

At the heart of it all is the Sunset Dune, which has drastically shrunk, and an uncomfortable question arises: what happens when a destination builds its success around something that ceases to exist?
