In July 2001, in the heart of the Djourab desert in northern Chad, Michel Brunet announced the discovery of a 7-million-year-old skull. He then embarked on a delicate field investigation, visiting the world's leading paleontology laboratories and attempting to reconstruct the destiny of what is now the most precious witness to our distant origins.
This film materializes all the cogitations of this extraordinary researcher, and attempts to recreate Toumaï's environment for the first time: an amphibious fauna populated by giant tortoises, crocodiles and saber-toothed tigers.
